How well does the emerson black coating on the blade hold up?

Hi,

My impression is that it'll scratch, as almost every coating seem to do...
Maybe except boron carbide, wickedly hard stuff.

I don't really care as my knives are users, so some scratches and scuffs gives'em charater :)

HTH!

it holds up better than some, but it will scratch, that is for sure - even just cutting a heavy duty box open will scuff it up, esp if ya hit a staple!!

I have been to some shows and have seen guys who just looooove their Emersons, and have been using them for three or four years, and they have perhaps 1/2 sq. inch of black coating left on them (that is both sides of the blades combined), and they don't seem to mind one bit. They are users, and that is what is important. They have used them to cut boxes, seat belts, chicken wire, wood, clothing, you name it...

From my understanding, that chrome coating they use don't come off for nothin'. Somewhere I read that it is just as hard as the blade.

Hey! 2Sharp is back! I know I've been away for a while, so this may be old news, but welcome home!
