How well does the super CQC-8 wave?

I have been carrying my new Horseman for a few days now and love it. I have also been looking into larger folders for those times when a longer blade might be useful but a fixed blade might not be as convenient to carry (does not fold as compactly as a folder ;) ).

I have a lot of folders in the ~3 - 3.5" range, several Spydie Enduras and 1 ~4" folder (the Manix XL). So I was thinking about something larger and "heavier" duty (the manix xl is a great cutter/slicer but spyderco puts a nice distal taper on their ffg blades that make the tip not as robust as I am looking for), but not cold steel extra grande size. 4-4.5" blade. Obviously with a folder you are also accepting a pretty long handle to get a blade that length, but that is another issue. I have a CQC-15 on the way which I think will be a really good chore knife, but am lovin' the CQC-8 blade shape and ergos. So the Super CQC-8 has my attention because it is about the biggest folder I'd be likely to carry, and is bigger enough than other folders I already have to make it a useful addition to the herd. I really like the option of wave opening, but have never tried to wave open a blade that big. Anyone who has one - how well does it wave??

thanks a lot!

Funny! As I happen to be carrying my super 8 today.
It's a perfect sized knife but I like them big.
It carries like it's smaller than it is.
Go question about any of the Supers!

In my experience, 8's wave the worst out of any EKI knife.

I did a lot of reading here before going beyond the karambits I originally was interested in (and now have).
I read that about the 8s and also that the later model years fixed some of the waveability.
I now have several Emersons including the Horseman, SARK, and Gentleman Jim (all 2013 or 2014). All seem about equally waveable to me - I'm new at this but all require some focused attention to get the angle and catch right. But all wave just fine, depending on which pants I'm wearing and my technique. fwiw I've been using a spyderco waved delica (the factory wave model) for years.

In any case, my Horseman seems to wave fine, so no complaints. Just wanted to know what difference, if any, knife size makes, specifically for the Super 8. Its not the wave alone I'm after, it's the design of the super 8 blade, and waveability would be a big bonus compared to opening action of non-waved big blades.

It's more of a design thing, when waving an 8 I feel as though the finger choil prevents it from fully waving open.
IMHO commanders, 15s, and 7s wave best

I got the step below the super 8 and mine waves just fine and I would imagine the super might take some getting used too or a break-in period but I'd buy 1 and plan on it along with a super roadhouse....so I say do it!

LOL, I think I'm gonna :)
I like the CQC-8 blade and handle design a lot, the Horseman feels great in hand, but I won't know about larger handles until I try one of course. Wave opening is gravy. I'll see how well it works and looking forward to comparing to the 15 which I should get in the next day or two. DCJ obviously has done more testing than I have.

I think 10's wave the best. 15's and 8's require a totally different angle to wave them.

I agree on the 8's requiring a different angle, if you carry it in your left pocket with the blade closest to your zipper it waves effectively from jeans. Ymmv

I've actually been able to wave a horseman without a failure, it's almost stupid easy. Idk if it's just the way I open it myself but it's a lot easier than my commanders. I think it's the upswept blade shape.

I think the Super 8 is the easiest of them all to wave. Hell all I have to do with mine is flick my wrist, it kinetic opens with just the weight of the blade.

Try it!

Perhaps it is just me, but I have never had a problem wave-opening any waveable Emerson folder.
