Sorry about this gang, first time I've had a post that was too long to get in one posting.

Yvsa.

They may even give you extra penalties for using it to save your family.
Especially if you are one of the first few hundred people caught this way,
they will use you to “set an example”. This will cause people to “bury”
their guns away in hiding places, making them all but useless. If the
government does come to confiscate it, you won’t be able to get to it fast
enough and they will probably find it.

You’ve moved several times since you bought a gun? Remember showing your ID
when you bought a gun? Remember writing down your place of birth? Why do
you think the government has so many computers? Linking you to your new
driver’s license in another state shouldn’t be too hard. Besides, the
Treasury folks know where you work. Think you’re safe because you had
unregistered guns? Think again. I would expect that the government’s
database will contain a lot of old data. Some of it might indicate that a
gun was sold to a resident at your address. If they can tie you to ammo
sales or range use with your credit card in the previous 2 years you might
get a surprise visit. Or that seller might have remembered you bought that
gun from him and filled out his gun notice to get “off the hook” for that
gun.

The point of this article is that by thinking in limited terms of a “raid”
to confiscate guns we lose sight of the alternative methods the government
can use. Put yourself in the government’s position and think of your own
methods to avoid a conflict. Meanwhile, let’s ensure that every gun owner
votes for gun rights this year and the next. You can think of a thousand
excuses not to vote, not to help a campaign, not to help another gun owner
register to vote. I can think of one important reason to do all of those.

Liberty!

A well thought out and highly likely scenario, unfortunately. Federal agents would have to do the dirty work or turn in their badges, and be labelled as being in noncompliance same as you. Many would follow orders.:( Voting is, of course, the answer. Make YOUR voice heard loud and clear.

I have long been debating whether to participate in the 'gun law' discussion. Being from a place where no guns are allowed, naturally the thoughts of having guns around are very disturbing to say the least.

But after I read posts of why people wants guns and how they become so attached to it, I'd begin to understand why. Guns has been with you all since the beginning and it's part of the history.

The bad thing I'd think is gun control, too many 'bad' guns on the street. Is there a better way of blocking illegal guns flowing on the streets? So that the legitimate gun owners with good discipline can rightfully own guns ?

Please don't forget, if you have accw, then everyone knows that you have guns. Al

Thanks, Yvsa. That was very well-presented. No fiery rhetoric. Just good, well-concieved thought.

Thanks, and let's keep this from happening!

Hi AD:

The USA was founded with guns and they have been a part of our culture since our country began.

In this country we find it hard to imagine how life must be in a land where the government forbids the ownership of firearms. And now even knives of all things. To us that means only criminals that could harm us would have weapons and that would be unacceptable.

Overall, we own our guns responsibly and enjoy them for various reasons including collectability and the enjoyment of shooting them. Yes, sometimes for self defense.

There is no way to keep illegal guns off our streets or any other countries streets. The key word there is illegal. Illegal drugs can't be kept off the streets either.

In my opinion there are no "bad guns". Only some bad people that use guns for criminal purposes. People define bad guns in different ways. But, I'm willing to bet a responsible gun loving American that owned machine guns or even bigger weapons would never do more with them than admire them and oil them.

Guns, good or bad, are entirely a matter of opinion and always a matter of responsibility.

In the USA responsible gun owners can buy guns. It's just that some states and cities make it very hard to do, while other areas of the country are more reasonable about gun ownership.

I'm no longer a member of the infamous NRA and am not a spokesman for them but their position in the past has been that there are plenty of laws out there to keep guns out of the hands of the bad guys but that there are unenforcable.

See my next post.

Case in point from 3-Year-Old Boy Shoots Mom
Associated Press said:
Mon Mar 13, 4:47 PM ET

ST. PAUL, Minn. - A 3-year-old boy shot his mother in the knee with a 9mm handgun he had found under a couch cushion over the weekend, police said.

It was the second time the boy had handled the gun on Sunday. The mother had taken the gun away from the child and removed the bullets — apparently overlooking one in the chamber — and put the weapon back on the couch.

When the boy picked the gun up a second time, it fired. "It appears to be accidental," said St. Paul police spokesman Pete Crum.

The woman was taken to Regions Hospital, with non-life-threatening injuries. "It could have been much more tragic had the child shot himself or hit the woman in a more vital area," Crum said.

The boy was put in the care of his father.

Authorities removed several guns from the home. Crum said they were all legal.

Police said they would forward the case to the Ramsey County Attorney's office for possible child-endangerment charges.

"There are two lessons to learn: Don't let your children play with guns. Always treat a gun as though it's loaded," Crum said.

First of all, where did Crum see that the child was allowed to play with the gun?! But the main lesson is don't have your guns where they're accessable to those who shouldn't have them.

Another is the basic rule of safety is with a semi-auto is to look in the chamber when you clear it.

My guardian grandson was in middle school and has a 168 IQ along with Borderline Personality Disorder. My guns were locked in a case and my ammunition was in another case stuck in the rafters of the garage. Yep! He had a .357 round at school showing it off. The guns and ammo immediatly went to be stored at a friend's house up to the point I gave them to my brother. My bipolar condition played a part in the decision as well I admit.

At one point in the gun magazines I was following a discussion on the topic where it was pointed out that an inventive toddler was capable of chambering a round in a 1911 even though it was widely held that the spring was too strong for that to be done.

My step-son was raised with guns and was even required to follow the safety rules with toy guns. "If you point it at me, I'll put you through the wall." He's 40 now, living in Reno and has a carry permit.

I'd better end this post before anyone realizes I just an old fart rambeling on.

What? You already knew that?:o

They've already started to take guns away...look at the majority of kids coming out of school-can you say "sheeple?"

In fifty or so years almost no one will want a gun and think like good little clones...unless we do the armed fight thing.;) we'll all be like the UK,count on it.

This is all just my opinion not meant to offend anyone.

I really dont think that my government is about to start stripping away my liberties. If they were I dont think me owning a gun would help. If I lived in some countries I might feel diferently but here in Canada I'm really not worried. And we've just elected quite the prize pig to the PMs office. If the canadian government ever does invoke article 33 than I will do somthing (probably wont need a gun) about it but I don't lie awake at night worrying about it.

Okay, I have tried to post twice, and something keeps going wrong, so I am going to do it short and dirty.

Yvsa, I don't just agree with you, my paranoia stands up and applauds.

Keep in mind that the Second Amendment was enacted to enable the citizenry to overthrow the government, if necessary. I am not advocating that, just suggesting that we probably wouldn't be able to if it were necessary. Our government has been very successful in protecting itself from us, if not us from itself.

The framers understood that a frightened government is a good one. Have we forgotten?

Another reading of the second ammendment could find it to be saying that each state can have an armed police force. I havnt studied the american constitution very much, this is not a view I am expouding.

Actually they'll just use the anti terror provisions to obtain your credit card info and magazine subscriptions and if you fit the profile do a search.

Just for the sake of argument, the United States Code Section 311 states that:
(a) The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied
males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section
313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a
declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States
and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the
National Guard.
(b) The classes of the militia are -
(1) the organized militia, which consists of the National Guard
and the Naval Militia; and
(2) the unorganized militia, which consists of the members of
the militia who are not members of the National Guard or the
Naval Militia.

So since the National Guard isnt really covered by the 2nd (they own and operate tanks and other things illegal for citizens to own), the only thing the 2nd can apply to is the 'unorganized militia'. You could then argue that the National Firearms Act of 1968 goes against the Constitutional rights of those of us between the ages of 17 and 21, but I dont particularly think that is very practical in the society we live in today.

Let us be clear here. The men who wrote the Constitution had recently warred against the "lawful government" -- the King's government -- and had shot, stabbed, slashed, hacked, and blown up it's soldiers, other servants, and supporters. They were quite clear at the time that the right to bear arms was to protect "the people" from government. There are a multitude of contemporary writings by persons such as Jefferson that are explicit that the right is individual. "The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." "The pople," is not "the government." No respectable historian has ever argued otherwise.

Unfortuantely, the courts have ruled consistently that the Second Amendment does not prohibit action by states, only the federal government.

Fortunately, most state constitutions are even clearer, if that is possible, about the individual right to bear arms.

Like Bruise said . There are 5 questions guarrenteed to get you investigated . Trouble with wife , ex-wife , neighbour , a new one (signifigant loss of relationship) If you lost your job in the last two years . oh yeah , trouble with police . I kinda understand the last one .
For your initial restricted permit you gotta have 5 neighbours sign a form of which they get a copy with a phone number to call if they see you cause any anti-social behaviour . Upstairs neighbour is a drug dealer, beside me are two pot heads . Yeah right I want them to know I have guns !
