Specs and blade profile look very close can't seem to tell what the handle on the ashwacker proto is ..Anyone???

It is an 8.5 version ..Or shoudl I wait the 2 weeks for the NMFSH

It's the wacker handle from the Bushwacker Mistress.

I don't know if that's the actual handle name of the handle or how they compare... but I would suggest waiting for the NMFSH anyway.

The ASH-whacker has a Bushwhacker Mistress handle... Not quite Fusion, not quite Ergo, no quite Straight Handle, but a "hybrid" of them all, IIRC. Very comfortable. Pretty sure the handle slab material is black paper micarta. The NMSFNO has a SFNO handle. Not sure if this has its own name. Pretty sure that the ASH-Whacker has a wider blade profile than the NMSFNO, but probably not by too much.

As for waiting those "Two Weeks"... Well, that's a good question! ;)

Here's Jerry's description on the Bushwhacker Mistress handle...

Here's a chunk of Busse Combat history. . . .

You can see the Straight Handle, Ergo, and Fusion Handle influences. . . .

I really like this design for chopping!!! The rounded butt just rolls in your hand when chopping!!!. . . . And at a scant, near 3/16" thickness, this BM flies like the wind!!!. . . Very Cool ! ! !

Here's a pic of the handle. . . we used Sand Storm G-10 on this old prototype. . . .

Here's a pic of the entire Bushwacker Mistress. . . . This old model reminded us that at one time, we had planned on making a 3/16" thick Mistress!!!! . . . It is Killer Cool ! ! ! !

Enjoy!

I can truly tell you as far as comfort goes, the Bushwacker handle is amazing. Aside from the smooth handled SF handles that is, the smooth configuration in any fashion has them all beat. :D imho of course.

Thanks guys I have a SH-E and like the handle but I have really large mitts and was thinking the NMSF handle may fit me... the ASHwacker looks like an awesome knife in the 8.5 very similar to the NMSFNO in size. the handle style was throwing me. Think I may wait for a fusion handle or try and trade the SH-e for a FSH or BM-e

I love my NMSFNO, great all round knife, can be thrown, batons like a champ, great balance, and with practice it doesn't chop to bad.

That being said, if I had the choice, I'd go Ashwhacker. The handle would be much more comfortable for chopping, it still would baton great, and has a pretty good balance. Sheath options for the Ashwhacker are limited, but it's still an awesome knife.

I have a NMSFNO and a BWM and BWM LE .... the BWM is the more comfortable handle ... but the NMSFNO is'nt uncomfortable ... it's just if given the choice an Ashwacker would be my preference.

Large hands are what Busse's seem to be modelled on ... or at least these two are ... so you won't have any problems there whichever way you decide.

I also sand my grips smooth ... when you chop a long time without gloves you appreciate the extra comfort

The reason the Ashwacker/BWM grip is more comfortable is the angle you have your wrist at when chopping with the knife ... the NMSFNO is more of a straight handle and the BWM is slightly more tapered down in a curve at the rear ... this prevents the knife sliding forward through the fingers ... it gives a better feeling of security when the knife "impacts" ... it's not a big issue as the NMSFNO is perfectly secure if you have a good grip ... but splitting things into "nuances" is the only way to judge this issue.

Sorry I didn't get this up yesterday. Here they are side by side. They are two of my favorite knives, but if I could only choose to keep one it would be the Ashwhacker. It just feels good in the hand.

I prefer the NMSFNO...because doesn't have a trap hand handle....I'm not willing to change my opinion tomorrow!
