I have a Buck 420hc blade in low satin, but I would like to see it blackwashed. Any suggestions on how do go about it? I have a tumbler, if that helps.

I am also debating just stonewashing it. Any suggestions on how to go about it?

Blackwashing is a technique specific to Kai, so I doubt you can take a stain blade and make it blackwash. However, you can acid etch it and stonewash it to make it darker.

Muriatic Acid (hydrochloric acid) found at hardware stores will work (get the 32% or so, not the diluted stuff), as will ferric chloride (PCB etchant from Radio Shack). Disassemble the knife and cover the pivot area with nail polish. Do the same for the edge if you wish. Dilute the acid 50/50 and dip the (disassembled) blade in the acid for about 10 minutes. Wipe the blade and decide if it's dark enough. Go in 5 minute increments after that until you're satisfied. Toss it in your tumbler and let it go until you like the finish.
