if i were to get an esee 6 how would i mod the spine for use with a fire steel ?

Grind it square, or if it's already square just strip a section.

Use a small rat tail file and put a notch on the spine.

You shouldn't need to mod anything unless someone rounded the spine. If so, careful flattening of the spine with a dremel or grinder on at least a portion so the edge is sharp, aka has a squared edge.

1095 is very easy to grind, so just remove the coating and take a file to it (although the latter would also achieve the former).
