How would you make one of those for the end of the knife. Im sorry but I don't even know what they are called to search. Is there an online tutorial or something, also where do you get the string.

D'oh!

Still it's more emphasis on how to do it. It's like subversive propaganda, man.

really imho they look better with spectra cord vs regular paracord, its thinner. spectra is pretty close (as close as i have found) to what is originally used on MT, CR, etc.

i called MT about some cord for my SOCOM elite, they wanted $18 for the cord lol.

Where should I buy this cord. Also does it matter if its Mil-spec.

I dont mind spending a little extra for a better product.

100' of OD green
100' of Black

Most good "outdoor equipment" stores sell cord by the foot, and in lots of different sizes and colors. The kind to get are the multi-strand core, not the solid core or the elastic bungie cords. These are every bit as good as mil-spec paracord, and in some cases better in tems of load bearing limits and abrasion resistance.

I go to Jesse Browns Outdoors around here.

You're just making a little thing to help hold on to your knife, it doesn't really matter what you use. You could make one with shoelaces if you wanted.

If you want cord that really is STRONG for its size, look at power-kite suppliers. I fly powerkites and my local kite shop sells numerous types of cord by the meter, nylon, dyneema, sleeved dyneema, and even kevlar cord. The kevlar I have is only 2.5mm in diameter and has a breaking strain well in excess of 1000lbs. Kite shops also tend to sell all different colours of cord for marking various parts of the kite gear with so you can ckoose your colour to suit the application. Hi-viz yellow makes sure that a dropped knife can be seen and found more easily in the field.

Slightly off topic and apologies to the original poster, but how much is the 2.5 Kevlar stuff and how well does it like to knotted etc? I had a look for Power-Kite accessories and found the 300lbs to be about $1 per meter. At this price you can get Spectra from REI. I just ordered 30m (100') of climbing utility cord for backpacking, but if I could get something lighter and stronger I would be really interested.

Sorry again for the Hijack.

The kevlar cord only cost me 10 pence a meter. The guy at my local kite shop bought a huge spool of the stuff for a project, and has a load left over so is selling it cheap. (10 pence a meter = £1 Sterling for 10 meters ) I snapped up a whole length of the stuff while I was there because it seemed just too good an offer to pass by. It is a kevlar cord with a fairly hard nylon sheathing. It's relatively stiff to knot, but tightens down a treat if you take care with it. Being hi-viz yellow I'll be using it for marking purposes as well as situations that need its strength. Apologies for any hijacking of the thread but the guy wants the info...
