Recommendation? How would you clean this?

Being able to look at it closer on a 65” TV that looks to be the metal. Maybe inside edge was never cleaned up because it’s basically hidden except when inspecting. I ran it through a heated ultrasound and watched years of dirt come off. The action felt great after a good clean, it was gummed up before. I put a little oil on joint and it snaps open now.

I use Kano oil (Kroil) as a general cleaner on my handguns and have had good results with knives, as well. Apply liberally and let it sit for as long as you can, like a day. As mentioned, qtips work well. Again from gun cleaning, I have a very narrow brush that's also helpful. Good luck!

I take a strip of wet dry sandpaper. Fold it multiple time until I get a wad about as thick as the blade well is wide. It is best to fold the paper so that the grit is always out, and the backing always in. That way it doesn't wear itself out, rubbing against itself. Using warm to hot water, and a drop of dish soap, scrub out the blade well. Rinse and repeat till the rust is gone. Blow dry with compressed air and oil.

O.B.

I would take some oil on a q-tip and clean out the rust. I would get a small dowel rod and wrap some 0000 steel wool around it and run in the channel to remove more rust. Clean out any steel wool fibers real well with running multiple q-tips with oil in the channel.

Break a toothpick in half. Get a small wad of 0000 steel wool and stuff it in the blade well.
Take the broken end of the toothpick and push the steel wool onto the backspring, and scrub back and forth. Do not use any oil when doing this.
Shake the knife to remove as much gunk and old steel wool fibers as you can, then tap the knife on a piece of wood to dislodge any further debris.
Blow out with compressed air, if you have it.
Lastly, a good flush with WD40, shake out as much as you can, then blot out the rest with cloth or paper towels. Dry, and apply a light oil to the blade joints.
