Spyderco Delica

Buck ranger 112

Benchmade mini pica

Camillus Blaze

Benchmade Griptilian

Thanks for your responses and knowledge. I am going to use the knife outdoors and hunting.

PS

trolly,

For what you want the knife for any of these would be fine, my pick would be the Buck 112. I have a few of them and they are a good user

If it matters, I'd say the Delica has the best steel out of those but the others are good as well.

This is how I rank them
1. Spyderco Delica
2. Benchmade Griptilian
3, Benchmade mini pica
4. Camillus Blaze
5. Buck ranger 112

1. Griptilian
2. Delica
3. 112
4. Mini Pica

I don't know much about the Blaze.

As you can see, our opinions will vary greatly. Pick what knife is best for you.

Delica- Best steel
Griptilian- Best action and lock
112- Best looking, perhaps most durable
Mini Pica- Best value
Blaze- Assisted opening

If I'm not mistaken, which I certainly may be :), I believe the Griptilian can be had in D2. If correct, that would certainly put the title of 'best steel' back up in the air. Was it Cabelas that commissioned a run of D2 Griptilians?

For outdoors and hunting use, I would rank them this way:

1. Griptillian - good edge geometry for outdoors stuff, great steel, fairly lightweight. I have a mini-grip, and it makes a nice little knife for day-hikes. It's really easy to keep sharp with a pocket DMT stone.

2. Buck 112 - good edge geometry and ergonomics, solid as a rock! I love my 112!

3. Spydie Delica - good steel and lightweight. Probably gets the sharpest of all the ones listed! Only downside is a lack of belly to it. I actualy use an Endura quite often on camping trips anymore, covers lots of tasks.

I don't have either of the other two, but I don't see why either one would be a bad choice. Not a big fan of assisted openers, so maybe the Pika would get my pick for 4th. Love AUS8 blades like the Blaze has for outdoors use, though, easy to maintain and sharpens up well.

For my outdoors jaunts, I usually carry a Spyderco Endura, SAK rucksak (the saw is handy as can be!) or a Case yellow Trapper, and a fixed blade of appropriate size for my trip. This makes a great combo and covers pretty much everything I do outside.
Shoot, I probably carry too darn many knives anyway...

mini pika...........great little knife-steal for the money-440c steel I believe
delica...............great knife too-VG-10 steel
dont know much abt the other 3 sorry

I agree.

For hunting, I'd prefer a fixed blade. For general outdoor use, I'd rank the ones I know this way:

1- Delica

2- Buck Ranger

3- Griptillian

I'm sure the others are fine too, I just haven't used them personally.

I agree with this order but depending on the task would switch up the Delica and Grip. I find that no matter how great a new knife that i get is, I always find myself carrying that Delica about a month later.

Bronco, you are correct, but I was talking about the standard Griptilian as it is the best comparison to the others in terms of price. Cabellas D2 Grip and the S30V Ritter Grip are in another class in terms of performance *AND* price.

I do the same or I carry the new knife and a Delica.

A Delica made with ZDP-189 may be the perfect knife,

. . . . . . . . . . . . . for now. ;)

It's your money, how do YOU rank them? But in my opinion,

1. Benchmade Griptilian

2. Spyderco Delica

3. Buck ranger 112

4. Camillus Blaze

5. Benchmade mini pika

By the way, the new regular Griptillians - which are shipping now - are 154CM. 154CM is replacing 440C as the baseline Griptillian. Which makes #1 an even easier choice for me.

If you're interested in the 112, take a look at the 501. It's a quarter inch shorter, but a little slimmer and easier to pocket carry, in my opinion at least. There's also a 500, which is the same size as the 112, yet slimmer and with a drop point blade (as opposed to the clip), but it's been discontinued and can be a bit pricey on the secondary market (~$50).

The 112 is a good knife, but a little thick for the handle length.

I don't own a Delica, but it's big brother the Endura is a wonderful knife, so I'd have no problem with a Delica. Great design from a strictly ergonomics standpoint, but ugly as poo (but it grows on you, I've come to really like the look of my Endura).

If the Blaze is as well made as the Heat, then it would be a winner too.

The BM Grip is a wonderful knife and in terms of cool factor, it beats the rest hands down. Their 440C is good, but a little hard to sharpen if you let it get dull. I don't own a Grip, but have sharpened a few for friends. The blade design is great and the AXIS lock is fun and very strong (though I still perfer lockbacks).

I can't comment on the Pika. They look like nice knives for the price and I haven't heard any negative press on them.

They're all fine knives but have different uses. I think, given a choice, I'd probably go with the Grip, with the Delica as a close second.

By the way, the new regular Griptillians - which are shipping now - are 154CM. 154CM is replacing 440C as the baseline Griptillian. Which makes #1 an even easier choice for me.

oooooh... what's the price on the new Grip? Is it a rolling change or a new item? That may very well be worth a look, as I really like the Grip design, and 154cm.

Here's my ranking...

1. Spyderco Delica
2. Benchmade Griptilian
3. Benchmade mini pica
5. Buck ranger 112

I don't know enough about the Camillus Blaze to give any advice.

I think that the Buck 112 is nice...but, it is alot heavier and you get no increase in performance over the Delica or the Griptilian.

Others that you might want to consider:

Spyderco Salt I (same as the delica but with a stronger tip, H-1 blade-steel which does not rust ever, and a larger thumb-hole).

And the Spyderco Endura and Pacific Salt are more comparable to the Griptilian in size.

And, to complicate matters further, Spyderco is releasing the NEW Endura4 and Delica4 (all screw construction with dual steel liners and a stronger tip)!

Good luck and happy hunting,
Allen.
