How would you tighten any bladeplay...

...on this Mini Barrage?

I'm assuming there's a pivot screw under the scales. Probably just a matter of removing the scales first. Not quite as convenient but, on the other hand, it kind of streamlines the looks a bit. Might also discourage (slightly) a small handful of folks from tinkering with it needlessly. Maybe this is a way for Benchmade to cut down on returns from people who've been 'messing' with it?

Just purely my speculation (seriously :p )...

Hey bud whats up?

Yes the above guy was right, the pivot bolt is underneath the benchmade logo side scale. Its takes a little bit longer to adjust but if you use a bit of blue loctite then you will only have to do it once until you take it apart to clean it. Its a pretty sweet knife I like mine quite a bit. The size is just about perfect and its a very beefy little knife. It has the best assisted opening of any knife I have every felt as its a coil spring around the pivot instead of a leaf spring like most. this allows the spring to push the blade open the entire way instead of just ~50%. However I'm not a huge fan of AO anymore so I took the spring out. I use it at work sometimes and the AO just scares people.

They came out with a limited edition g10 mini barrage at blade last year and it was really cool. I can't recall how many they actually made but the plain edge ones are pretty rare now days and bring inflated prices. The only thing I'm not huge on with mine is the plastic scales, I would much rather have g10. I've thought many a time about getting some custom scales made but I really like my Wilkins mini Ritter and mini SERE better all in all.

That's a real good reason why Benchmade might not want too many folks tinkering with the pivot on this knife. I'm thinking some might find it very difficult to put it back together, if they take it apart and don't really know what they're doing.

This is very true. Though Benchmade doesn't want anybody taking apart any of their knives, this one in particular is a little tricky if you're not used to the coil spring design. It took a little more fandangling to get this one back together.

Dude... It's a Benchmade. There shouldn't be any need to do that.

I have yet to purchase a folder that I haven't atleast adjusted the pivot a tad to make it open faster/slower or to clean up blade play. Theres really no magic way for a manufacturer to tighten a pivot at their factory unless they took enough time to hand tighten it to exactly where it should be to optimize opening speed while maintaining blade play. Granted they do a pretty good job from my experience but (almost) no company pays that much attention.

I can't think of a knife that I haven't tinkered with to change how it opens, how little blade play there is.

Several Benchmades have had their tangs polished, washers polished, liners polished, not everyone is happy with factory work.

I have a 707 that I re-profiled to a 10° edge and 17ish° micro-bevel, polished the liners, washers and tang, the sweet spot is minuscule, but hitting the sweet spot... well it's dang near perfection.

The only thing that really made a difference for its performance was the thinner edge I put on it, but no blade play+smooth as silk opening&closing just makes it a joy to toss in the pocket.

There has been plenty of need to do that to my Benchmade since I bought it. Thing had a fair bit of blade play when it was new and more up-and-down blade play than I knew what to do with when it came back from their warranty dept.

I've had to mess around with the pivots of all of my knives for one reason or another (except of course my Endura 3 and Vic Pioneer, because they're pinned, and I couldn't adjust them if I wanted to). Benchmade is no exception.
