Hello all my Porcine Bretheren!

I have'nt posted here in quite some time. Since my work as a Drill Sergeant keeps me at work for 14-16 hours a day, I spend all my spare time with Mrs Grunt or sleeping. Also the fact that Blade Forums is blaocked at work doesn't help either. I usually do a drive by here every other day or so and read up on everything. I see there are a bunch of new HOGS and Piglets snuffling around the trough.

I have been reflecting recently on my lust for INFI and my lack of funds to purchase new fodder for the trough. Which has actually led me to appreciate my modest collection and enjoy it even more. The other day went into the INFI storage and pulled out all my stuff and realized how much I really enjoy it.
The best part of my collection is the number of users I have and the use I get out of them. My NICK gets used in the kitchen constantly, my CGNO get all of the heavy jobs and is still going strong after more than 5 years :D, My Euro four sees some rough use also, and the wife prefers using the BA III for tasks around the house. It is nice to have such useful tools that can take such hard use with out fear.
My "Safe Queens" bring me enjoyment as well. My custom NO was the first custom knife I ever bought, and I cut my wedding cake with my Argonne Assault. THe others that stay in the safe are all cool for their own various reasons.
After reading some of the recent threads especially the thread posted by Matteo Escobar and some of the responses. I felt like I should post.

When did this forum become so annoying? I thought we were here to discuss knives.

I feel like it's getting out of control the last few months.

Has the Busse Combat forum jumped the shark?

Matteo: Frankly had not noticed a big difference. However, if my experience is any indication, there is a definite life cycle to an individual's interest in and participation in a forum. I have gone through this cycle on several forums, most notably the Continuous Wave Boston Whaler Forum and the AOL Weightlifting Forum.

1. Discover the forum. Read it eagerly. Learn the ropes.

2. Begin posting, usually rather extensively since the forum subject is one I have an active interest in.

3. Learn who the old-timers are, who has true words of wisdom and who are pretenders.

4. Maintain an active participation until suddenly I find myself in danger of getting repetitive and boring. Start to limit postings to those topics on which I believe I have something of value to contribute.

5. Realize that I am now one of the old-timers. Begin to deplore how the forum is declining, when in reality it is just changing somewhat because of the turnover of participants. Change is inevitable in any human endeavor.

6. Start to just tune in occasionally to see if anything new is going on.

7. Occasionally notice it on my favorites list and wonder, "why don't I go there anymore?"

Now I don't expect this to happen to me on the Busse forum, although I find myself reading more and posting less these days. The key to me in the above list is to realize the "change is inevitable" thing. It isn't necessarily better or worse, it has just changed somewhat from the old familiar.

At least we haven't turned into old grumps who tersely refer all newcomer questions to the search function, like folks on a lot of forums do.

I realized that I value the friends I have met here much more than any amount of INFI I could ever own. While I still want more INFI and will get some more as funds permit, I really appreciate the people here more. So having said that I need to catch up on a few topics.

Kendra our heartfelt prayers and condolences go out to you and your family.

Jerry and Jennifer CONGRATS on your upcoming addition to your family. :D

HAMMY Congrats on your big anniversary!! Way to go!!

If I have missed anyone I will post later. I need try to hang out more with my INFI bretheren.

I guess my point here is if you are just here for the knives, you are missing out on the true meaning of HOGDOM!!

Oh yeah BTW before I forget...... Where's the FOLDER and can I still blame PORKERSON??

Regards,

Nick

Great post and I'm glad that you are still alive and kicking. ;) I always enjoy reading your posts and I'm glad that you stopped by this evening.

Stop back and post when you have time.

BTW, you can blame me if you'd like but I'm secretly blaming everything on Garth ;)

:D:D

Good to have you around Nick. How soon to you get to trade in your trail pay for hostile duty pay? Here's hoping you get a primo post.

Nick, hope all is well bro.

We've missed your input man!!!

Yes, there are a lot of new hogs and piglets here. That is a good thing.

Their excitement and quest for knowledge helps keep the spirits high around here.

Many of the older hogs/posters have stepped back into the shadows, watching, helping when they can, trying to guide the new kids.

Hope you can make it to Blade bro. Would be good to see ya man.

Hammy

Glad to hear from ya! I knew there was a military monster missing from the trough. ;)

Hey HOG!!! :D

Good to see ya!!! :D Any chance of you and the Mrs. makin' it to BLADE this year???

That'd be killer!!!

Thanks for the well wishes,

Jerry
