Howdy folks. I'm new here but not new to the world of Forums. This appears to be a fantastic site and there appears to be some really good folks with lots of great information and passion.

Can't wait to get settled.

Just a little about me...

I live in Houston, Tx and I'm soon to be 29 years old. My father was a knife collector and authority in his own right on Case pocket knives, US and British Military Fighting knives and custom hunting and skinning knives. I learned much from him about quality workmanship and knife geometry and lore, but I never had a passion for learning the kind of extensive knowledge he had.

Well he passed away in late June unexpectedly and along with his knife and gun collection, I inherited his entire office full of knife books. I'm slowly working my way through them now and starting to develop my own knowledge base.

At any rate I think I'm going to enjoy this place!

Now, for a little knife porn... (Can I post that word? We'll see... Might be filtered...)

One of my personal custom knives:
Treeman Knife
Jim Behring Made
Scagel style crotch stag with leather and spacers, convex ground 4.5" blade, buffalo hide Mosher sheath.

Enjoy!

well howdy
phideaux_2003.
sweet blade!
great that you have books to go on.
always an advantage to have a ready source of reference.
your journey will be that so much richer
having been well read on the subject.
fyi, some knife books are collectable too...
hope you enjoy the visits here.

Glad to hear you not only appreciate the knives, but all the knowledge you will find in those books.

Hi Nick, first of all, I'm sorry for your loss.

And welcome to the forums, you can pick up a lot of good information in. What knives are you mostly interested in?
I'm in the Houston area too by the way!

Thanks for the condolances fellas. I was very very close to dad. He was a member here actually. Member name: Kixonrt66. He wasn't super active I don't believe but I do know he was a member.

I'm mostly in to hunting knives and skinning knives. I also love pocket knives but I refuse to buy a knife I'm not going to carry and use so I don't typically get real pretty knives for my own use. Had a stag handled Moore Maker Trapper with a beautiful little belt sheath that I just couldn't bring myself to carry and use. Traded it to a friend for a Victorinox Swiss Army knife with a cigar cutter in it! I enjoy an occasional cigar and the novelty of the cigar cutter on the Victorinox knife was enough to warrant my trading the beautiful Moore Maker (not a cheap knife) to a friend.

I have a few Military knives, and various and sundry other pocket knives that I've had over the years strewn all about my apartment. I'll bet I've got 40 knives in my apartment if we were to really tear it apart and find every one. I have a hard time deciding which is my pride and joy though... The Treeman above or my grandfather's Randall. Granddad passed in 2000 and it was his dream for all of his grandkids to go to college. I was the first to graduate (2007) and dad passed the Randall to me when I walked. Granddad had his name stamped in the blade. I happen to be named after him so it's also my name stamped in the back of that knife. See it here next to the Treeman...

It's a 1971 production 4-5, nickel guard rather than brass, Johnson Roughback small stitch with a grey stone. It's cleaned many many-a deer and will continue to do so until I'm long dead and buried. You gotta love quality like that.

Dad lived in Albuquerque when he passed just this past June 30th, and my step mother hasn't had enough time to get comfortable with the idea of going through his stuff yet. She said when she is confortable she'll fly me out and we'll go through it. I'm ok with that. I know dad had an extensive collection at one point but I think he'd gotten to the point where he was really into quality vs. quantity. I wouldn't be surprised if his collection had dwindled to only a few dozen really extrordinary pieces. I know he's got my great grandfather's WWI triangular bladed trench dagger, and his bayonet for his Krag-Jorgenson. I'm sure he's still got my uncles Thai/Malay brush knife made from a studibaker suspension spring. I know he had at one time and awfully nice example of a Marine Raider's Stilletto, but I don't know if he still had it. He's probably got several Italian switchblades too. Being Italian, he loved those... We'll see...

Wow, they both are beautiful knives, but the history and memories are what make them priceless.
