I am a hard core Spyderco junkie but I am also an outdoorsman and I love my Beckers too. I have had a BK14 since they first came out and have carried it extensively. I have used it as an EDC, I have used it backpacking and camping and I have brought it on multiple foreign vacations. I have trusted it in the most far off and isolated places I have ever been and I tend to backpack alone pretty often. If it ever got discontinued I would buy five of them in a heartbeat. I just read that the BK24 got the axe and it has been on my short list for a while so I am gonna grab one (or more if they clearance them) soon. I also picked up a BK15 a while ago and it too has served me well. I boned an elk out this year with a Spyderco S110V Mule and my BK15 and they both worked great. The 1095 couldn't hang with the S110V as we got further into it but the BK15 worked very well for skinning and for making some of the deeper cuts that the Mule couldn't make. Together they made a great combo. I actually backpacked in about three miles and set up a base camp so I needed a camp knife as well as a game processing knife. The Mule and BK15 together met all my needs. The BK15 is more handy around camp but the S110V had the edge retention to get the Elk boned out and in a backpack without having to stop and sharpen. I had to pack 300 pounds of meat and 70 pounds of camping gear out about 3 miles each way so time is a factor and not having to sharpen much is a plus. I dropped the Elk late in the afternoon and dressed it out and went back in the morning for it. It took the whole next day and well into the dark to get it all out by myself but the freezer is full (very full).

Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself and thank Ethan and Kabar for making these two knives I have gotten so much use and satisfaction from. Seriously, camping, backpacking, fishing and hunting are my true passions and these knives let me enjoy them even more. Thanks!!!

Here are some various pics.

The files chuck sparks a little better but I keep a crisp spot on the spine of the BK14 for the ferro rod.

It cleaned up very well too. I think the Elk fat protected the blade a bit because it didn't stain much at all and it was caked in gunk for a week.

Well that explains all those times I was sure someone was watching me sleep...

In any event, welcome to our corner of the asylum!

Welcome!

great introduction! grab a beer and pull up a chair to the fire!

Thanks for the welcome guys.

I have popped in and read a bit on here over the years on my way to the Spyderco subforum and I have learned a lot. This seems like a good group and Ethan seems like a great guy who really cares about his customers and his product. What is not to like about that?

I don't actually process a lot of wood when out in the backcountry so the smaller models work well for me. The BK15 has been great but without the swedge it would baton better. Trailing points tend to dig the tip in when batoning anyway but the swedge makes it worse. I don't baton much unless I am trying to get some dry kindling out of some wet wood so it isn't a big deal. It slices very well and is a great jack of all trades knife for me. I want to grab a BK16 and BK24 but for now the bk13, bk14 and bk15 are taking great care of me. I really don't have much use for the BK9 or BK5 but I still want them and I am sure once I get them I will find plenty of uses for them.

Yup...ya got Becker Brain...early onset of Beckeritis...
Good luck with that...give the little lady and the wallet our dearest heartfelt sympathies
