hey gang-

i am up in vancouver with the band for 23 days of recording. we are actually outside of canada in gibsons on good little plit of land with an ocean view. this place is really spectacular.

i managed to get my ratweiler through customs, so hopefully at some point i can get some good usage pics in the forest here. however, we were warned, if we take hike off into the wilderness, to take a dog to help ward off the cougars, and to make plenty of sound to keep the bears away.

:D

Sounds great Hank! I'm glad that you got your Ratweiler and I'll look forward to your pics. I'm also very interested in what you think about it....before and after abuse. :D

Don't get eaten by those animals! ;)

before abuse, it's awesome. seems to be well balanced, very well made, came with a good edge. the only thing i am mildly disappointed in so far is the finish, and its really not all that bad. i got a spec-ops brand sheath for it, and had to do some heating and molding on it to make the ratweiler fit, and the finsih did take some wear from sliding in and out of the tight sheath (it has the urban shadow (?) finish). i really couldn't expect much more out of the finish, but i feel the crinkle or something like one of the titanium oxide finshes would have done a little better.

but, as far as design and construction goes, it is definitely top notch.

You will see the advantages to this finish as you use it.

The finish is not like a hard shell. Those types of finishes tend to chip or flake off with simple impact or use. The crinkle coat is made to sort of "smear" with hard use. Once the crinkle coat smooths out, it becomes very difficult to wear off. View the coating as an epoxy, rather than paint.

that was exactly my thought. even with the urban finish, it hasn't worn to the metal, but sort of smeared and smoothed.

Hank, Enjoy Canada!! I live in central Ontario, other side of the country pretty much. But it is very nice aswell. I have been to British Columbia many time and can speak on it beauty!! I hope you enjoy it out there, it is truely an outdoorsman's playground. Don't you be cutting down my Countries trees with that fine blade you have out there!! ;)
