I am new here and just wanted to say hello to everybody and introduce myself. I am a verified knife/gun nut, and always have been, I grew up in the Ozarks and spent most of my time in the woods, I love primitive skills and survival camping. While I was in the Army(back in the early 90s) my Dad sent me a ColdSteel LTC...my first thought was cool, but what is it?! It only took one trip to the wood line and a sacrificial pine tree to realize that I was in love! This thing was heads above any of the bowie style blades I had ever used before on deployments. 14 years later I was still using it, and even bought a back up of the same model, I had wore out the handle and replaced it with fiberglass, made a new sheath that held my SAK and Dymond stone as well as a mini-kit.

Then one sad and very weird day, while chopping up some storm damaged oak trees, my LTC broke.....then about 2 hrs later my back up LTC broke.....it was a very bad day!

I sent the blades back and CS replaced them with two of their new Ghurkia Khukuri models :D which made me very happy! But I have had this nagging feeling in my head for the last few years, that I really needed to try a true Khukuri, the real deal. So after a couple of days searching the net, reading all I could...I found HI. I searched the forum here, reading some of the past posts and placed and order the 15 1/4" AK without a handle made by Bura, which was the Monday handyman special.
I am already impressed with the service, as Yangdu replied back to me today, a Sunday on a holiday weekend!
Thats all for now, I will update after I get the blade and put a handle on!
Take care,
Jim

Welcome! Good to see you finally bought a real kukri. Yes Yangdu's service is fantastic. I'm Wildmike when I purchased my M-43 from HI I was homeless and living in an extreme survival situation for several years. That kuk built me two log cabins and numerous other shelters. Serving me well in many other capacities as well. I still use that kuk regularly and own several other kuks and knives from HI as well. You have made a good decision going with HI.

Welcome:) You're in for a treat:D I used to have a CS khuk, but I gave it away after I received my first 15" villager. There is no comparison. Oh, the CS worked just fine. It was a great knife, but a standard everyday khuk will blow it out of the water in terms of chopping, toughness, and "soul":D

Welcome to the HI Cantina. Pull up a chair and stay awhile:thumbup:

Welcome.

You may not know it, but you are the kid who is about to taste chocolate for the first time. :)

Read the safety thread, please.

Welcome, Jim.
Heck of a deal that both broke on the same day.

Please post pictures of the finished AK. I think you're going to love it. Be sure to try a WWII model, too.

Are you going to put fibreglass handle on this one too?

It would be a nice mix of tradition and technology.

EDIT: Forgot to say WELCOME! If you fell in love with the Cold Steel and got 2 of them, I guess your HIKV only can be HUGE.

I was a dedicated CS man for 15 years. I purchased my first HI Kuk last month and now have 7. No turning back for me.

Welcome to the HI Forum Jim, be sure to visit the Cantina as well!  :D Kismet is spot on, hope you like chocolate!;)

Edit:
Did I understand correctly that you made the scabbard for your CS model? If so you might be able to pick up enough scabbard work to pay for your HI Khukuri habit. :D ;)

Hey Folk,
Thanks for the warm welcome! It was a toss up between the AK 15"-18", the WWII, or the M43. The deciding factor was that I kinda wanted to make my own handle, either another fiberglass one or one out of some Paduk wood. I also usually make my own sheaths because I am left handed and I like kydex, so I wanted to keep the blade around 10" or so. Lastly, the idea of owning a blade, made by the same person who makes them for Nepalis Royalty was just too cool to pass up!
I will make sure to post pics as soon as I am done, right now I am having a blast reading old posts!
Take care,
Jim

Yes Sir, I wanted a comfortable sheath that strapped to my leg, and that I could draw and sheath with one hand. It worked great with a thin bladed LTC, I am hoping it will work as well with a 3/8" thick AK! :D
I will be sure to post some pics...

BTW, Yangdu emailed me again this evening and I was able to send payment....all I can say is, WOW! On a Sunday evening on Memorial weekend...thats service!
Take care,
Jim Lane

WELCOME ROCKFARM!!

You've come to the right place to find "real" khukuri's, the next step would be to have them custom made by some high-falootin' knifemaker.

no need for that though as H.I can do that for ya too..

AS for the service around here, you'll find none better......

Welcome to the forum! Great looking rig you have there. I'm looking forward to what you put together for your HI.
