I have a crkt woods chogen tomahawk and was debating whether to cut the hammer section off when I remembered an old add that was in all the gun magazines at the time(80's) for a tomahawk. It was just the head,no handle as the idea was you made one in the field. If I remember correctly it also had a hammer head on the back. Can't seem to find references to it on the net. Any help greatly appreciated.

Cold steel has made some tomahawks. They may have sold just the head

Thanks for the reply but it wasn't Cold Steel as I remember some of there iconic adds from the time.

Sorry for the edits, trying to change there to the and it doesn't work. Stupid new guys.

I think you are referring to the skachet....

That's it! I was googling smatchet which of course was bringing up the old Applegate design not the same thing. Thanks! and I think I'll just keep the hammer head on the crkt as a homage to the (let me scroll up) sckatect or what ever that's it! Thanks again

Also I can't believe that I don't remember that it was made by Charter Arms. I remember their add for the explorer 22 pistol with a hank of parachute cord wrapped up,which started the whole parachute cord thing. Can anybody find that add?

And yeah that add is definitely older than I thought, damn I'm age challenged😉.I was a kid in the 80's,lot's of magazines you read were old when you got em.

Damn Arathol, an old magazine add from the 60's, I'm impressed.

To add onto this pardon the pun, when this add came out the local mil surplus shop had spools of parachute cord as of course it had been around for awhile. After that add the spools went empty and lots of people I knew had a hank of para cord in their pocket. That's how I know that add was the start of it.

A previous discussion here-

Yup that's it thanks Arathol. Now I'm getting greedy looking for someone to find that Charter Arms add with para cord. It absolutely was the start of the para cord phase we are still in. All my boots laces are para cord😉

That reminds me of when I was a kid back in the 70's. My dad was a civilian worker at North Island Naval base here in San Diego. He would occasionally bring home a pocket-sized wad of white paracord for use around the house. To me and my friends that stuff was like some kind of futuristic miracle rope. We loved the stuff. And I used to sell lengths of it to the other kids 😁 .

Thanks for the help. I may move on as it seems I have inadvertently "insulted" a member here in another thread? That's the problem when you join a forum without lurking for years. You're like that problem uncle that shows up to family gatherings.

Whoa there, hold on a sec-

If insulting another member, or posting something that another member chose to take as an insult meant a person had to leave this forum, I would have been gone MANY YEARS ago 😁.

I don't know what you posted, but you have as much right to be here as anyone else. As long as you don't break the Forum Rules and give a Moderator a reason to come down on you, you're alright, no need to leave. If you made a mistake, just learn from it, and don't make it again.

You didn't insult a Moderator did you? THAT isn't a good idea. But still, you don't get excommunicated for it. The Mods are a very fair bunch around here.

No nothing like that, but after I made my post I scrolled down and seen a thread that I thought I could contribute some first hand knowledge, did make the mistake of dropping a name, however obscure though not to this forum Bravo still wrong move on my part.

I just read it, you're good, you did nothing wrong.

People here are a good bunch. Most have thick skin and aren't overly sensitive. In fact, I can't think of anyone on this forum that I would call a jerk. Some members can be a little snarky sometimes, but not in a mean-spirited way. And some members will make jokes that sound like an insult, but that's just their sense of humor.

Don't worry, you're amongst friends here.
