Hi,

I just bought a Buck 55 last Monday and have been carrying it this week. As of 9:15 AM this morning it has gone AWOL from my pocket. Evidently it tunneled it's way out and escaped somewhere in the shop.

SWMBO was not all that enthused about this purchase, (don't you have enough knives? - well I don't have this one). Perhaps it was bad karma/juju. I was really enjoying the little guy. I don't look forward 'splaining it.

Anyone else lose a knife so quickly?

I lost my first jackknife the same day I got it. I still look for it by the storm grate by the tree in the park where I put it down while admiring it, even though they've regraded and cut the tree down and moved the storm drain for a basketball court.
I'm beginning to think it isn't going to turn up.
I wish you better luck.

I lost a John Lloyd mammoth swayback wharncliffe about 15 minutes after opening the parcel. I put it in my scrubs pocket, took my daughter out for a jug of milk or something like that. As we crossed the field she asked me to show her how roll. Reliving my jujitsu days I did a couple of pretty good rolls for not having practiced since breaking my legs. Unfortunately I didn't realize the knife flew out of my pocket until we got home- in which time it had gotten dark. Grabbing my flashlight I searched for an hour, but to no avail.
I felt bad for the wasted money, worse for loosing such a nice knife, and horrible for being socially irresponsible and possibly allowing it to get into the wrong hands.

Lucky for me my wife had the next day off, walked to the field and found it in a couple of minutes! The sunlight worked much better than the shadows from my flashlight. I am so glad it is still mine!

That's a shame. The 55 is a great knife. I lose a knife occasionally, but it usually turns up...fingers crossed.

Yeah! I love "found" stories! Especially for something as lovely as that!

From my experience with any kind of equipment including knives is that you have a much higher chance of losing/ misplacing it when new. It seems to take the brain sometime to kind have that automatic checking for the new tool. I've been lucky enough not to lose any knives yet, but have almost lost a couple by putting them in stupid places. For example I almost forgot my gec Lockback hunter in a coffee shop. I just left it on the table haha. Lucky someone told me I had left it there just before I left :)

Kris,
Tell us a little about the big brown-er one, far right in your picture.

Please.

Sorry for the late reply, just looked at the thread again. As with the other three, it is a John Lloyd, this one in mammoth ivory. I believe 52100. I have a twin in what I think is Steller Sea Cow as well. Solid and stout knife, I haven't used it too much as I don't have too much use for that style outside of the woods, and the last 2 years have seen little bush time unfortunately. Great fit and sharp as heck too.

I've only ever lost one knife, a simple (and cheap!) SAK Spartan. Ten years later it still upsets me to think about it.:(

I'm impressed with the thought of only having mislaid one knife. I can remember at least half a dozen knives I have owned that have gone missing over the last 50 or so years. The first disappeared when I was in my early teens. The last one to go over the hill headed for parts unknown about 5 years ago. Stuff happens.

I lost an Uncle Henry 897 Stockman about a month after I bought it. I was working on a friend's car on the side of the road, must have laid it down and forgot to pick it up. This was 26 years ago and Schrade had a one year loss replacement guarantee. They sent me a new one and I still have it. Funny, I always know where that one is.

I ended buying a backup one, too.

I feel for your loss. I've lost other knives that I never found and it bugs me. But time will help.

My wife also commented on my latest purchase yesterday. It cost $37 and she acted shocked. I didn't have the heart to tell her how many I had that cost more than that.
