Just wanted to check in and let everyone know that I'm a proud new Rat owner.
Initial impressions? WOW!!! This is without a doubt the most hard core knife I've ever laid eyes on. The handle is perfect for my uses, good and firm with just enough tackiness to insure a positive grip when using it streamside. Looking at the spine my first thought was, "If this is the thin stock then I've GOT to get one of the big knives!" The bare spot on my leg will attest to the sharpness of the factory edge and when choking up on the choil I can tell this knife will make great skinner come rifle season.
I'd planned on taking the HR flyfishing today but the dam above my local tailwater had my intended trail under 6 feet of water
. Oh well, maybe next weekend. At 32° it was a bit cool this morning anyway.
I stopped by Home Depot and picked up some 600 grit sandpaper for stropping - not that it needs it yet but I appreciate the tip from you guys. I hope to get some new sheaths for this guy soon (leather from MTMike and concealex from On/Scene Tactical), then I'll be looking at putting together my own Rat family.
My thanks to all of you at the Swamp for creating a line of hard use, no B.S. knives that we average working stiffs can afford - I'm a loyal customer from now on!
