Howling Rat LM vs. Bandicoot LM

I am trying to decide which of these two knives I should purchase when they become available. It would be intended for use while camping/hiking/yard work and hopefully paired with a RatMastiff Chopper.

The two knives seem to fill the same niche of a ~4 inch blade. The blade styles would typically lead me to choose the HR due to it's chunkier blade and potentially stronger tip, but from the Swamp Rat reputation it appears that this would be a moot point. The large choil on the Bandicoot appears to allow you to choke up on the blade for more control, but from the pictures I can't tell if this is indeed possible to do safely (as an additional question are the choils on the larger blades also usable?). If it is not, then the HR would again win with it's smaller choil.

Any comments on these two knives would be appreciated. I am sure that they are both excellent tools, and I will in all likely hood jump at whichever is released first to abate this gnawing desire to own one of these knives.

Buy both when they become available. They are both superb blades but it all boils down to personal preferance. I dont like blades with a fat face (or thick spine but thats irrelevant) so I lean towards the coot. However, I am in small company. Most people prefer the HR, its often called the perfect survival blade here and over at the swamp. The choil is really great. In fact if you use the choils alot like I do, it makes it hard to use other blades. You will find yourself wanting to grab the blade of a non choil knife. IMO it makes the knife much more usable.
As to which one to get, I vote for what ever is offerred first and if you want the other one then pick it up when it becomes available. You can always resell and not lose any money.
Good luck

Definately buy both. You won't regret it. At the price/quality, how can you go wrong?
I know I plan on at least one of each.

OOPS, I hope Mrs G19G26 didn't hear that:o

Thanks for the comments. Although "buy both" is a very attractive idea, I don't think my knife fund would allow it. Especially since I would also like to get one of the larger models when available and reselling just seems like too much of a hassle right now.

But I am sure I could think of reasons why I would need two nearly identicle knives.

I like my bandicoot alot. Its my EDC now. As far as strength goes its tough as hell. I stuck the tip into wood and hung on it it just flexed and then went true to straight. I had the same decision a howling rat or a bandiccot. I dont think you can go wrong either way but I like the smaller bandicoot blade for carrying. It is very comfortable riding in a kydex buy brown sheath.

I own an Infi Coot. Same knife profie, with a different steel. Great knife. If your worried about strength, don't be. This knife is tough as nails. Actually, tougher....

If possible get both. However, I would choose the M6.
