I was looking for a tough camp/hunting/fishing knife and was pondering Ka-bar when I came upon this site in November. I am hooked on SR knives, but it seems to me that it takes forever to get one. I liked the camp tramp and am anxiously awaiting the "new line." What do you guys think about the Howling Rat in the meantime? They are on the order page, but is the 3/16" thickness that much different in strength than the 1/4"? Thanks...

You cant go wrong with any of the Rats. Howling Rat is very nice.

Post in the wanted to buy section of the exchange if you are looking for instant gratification, or hang out and wait to see the new line.

You might end up with a bit of a wait, but It is more than worth it.

If you want a tough knife, your in the right place. I have a camp tramp and i love it. im still waiting for my howling rat to come (ordered jan 14) and like RF said, you really cant go wrong with swamp rats.

Makey98 - I remember the Thread. It was a lot of fun and I'm glad you found your way here. You won't be disappointed! :D

Get yourself an HR and don't look back. I had the pleasure of using mine on a couple of wild hogs, and a deer. I'm itching to use it again. I even ordered a sheath from Normark to match my 1911 rig.

Mackey98....I have one of the first HR from the Swamp.....the guys with the small choil.....This little blade has served me well for a lot of tasks(carried during 2 bow seasons but no luck shooting a deer, oh well).About a year after I got it I stripped the back coat off and have used my HR for everything form carving roast beef to cutting plastic sheeting at work, and other than a little staining of the blade, this knife has served me well and will continue to serve me for years to come.It now has an easily touched up V edge that comes back after almost any abuse with a few strokes of my white Sharpmaker ceramics.I will hold on to my HR till I take the dirt nap!!!!
