Does anyone know of a great sheath for this knife? I am getting a Howling Rat through a trade, and I understand that it comes with a tan leather sheath. As I am not a fan of leather sheaths, I would like to replace it with another.
I recently received one of Eric's sheaths for my BK7 from On/Scene Tactical, and it is superb! However, I like to keep my blades as mint as possible, and kydex tends to rub off the any kind of coating on the blades, and this is a personal pet peave of mine.
I also have a Spec Ops Brand Survival Sheath for my RAT-7, and it is excellent, but I don't believe they make one that is appropriately sized for the small blade on the Howling Rat. Any suggestions? Also, I am looking into ordering an RD6 from Justin at Rangers Knives, and I was wondering if the blade would fit in the large Spec Ops Survival Sheath? Thanks for your input.

I was under the impression that Eric uses Concealex, and that it is supposed to wear less on knives than Kydex. I've heard it described as "Kydex on Steroids".

Hey Guys....

Sabre....

My sheath shouldn't be rubbing off the finish on the blade..I don't think it will do anything to the powder coating on the HR at all...

Hondo...

Yes I do use Concealex...

Thanks

Hey, cool! My misunderstanding, I was under the impression that it was kydex! Good to know! Sorry for not having my facts straight. I stand corrected.

Eric,
On the Howling Rat, what part ofthe knife frictions against the sheath to keep it in? By the way, the BK7 Sheath is outstanding! The fit and feel of this sheath are exceptional, and I really like it over the factory sheath! Do you have any options that I could order to attach the sheath to Molle webbing?

Thanks again for the info guys!

Hey Sabre...

The howling rat sheath, just as with all of my sheaths including the BK7 are basically held in place by the lock of the handle and a very small indentation right at the tippy tip.

If you look on the back of your sheath, you will see a small indentation... This keeps the blade from rattling around inside...This indentation is the only thing touching the knife blade at all..

Built into each sheath there is a space between the Concealex itself and the knife blade..There should be little to no rubbing at all on the blade itself...
This is designed into the sheath to prevent rubbing and scatches...

Not that I'm saying it won't happen, however I've taken steps to help prevent it from happening.

If you have any further questions,, please feel free to email me,, or ask here,,whatever works for you...

Thanks Very much for the comments on your BK7 sheath..
I'm Very pleased that you like it so much...

Live Long and Prosper!

Thanks

Buy Brown sheath with Howling Rat...

It's the climber, which is very similar to the camper that you've got in stock. I'll be interested to know if a sheath for one will fit the other.

Regarding a HR sheath, have you had any trouble with the Res C sticking excessively to the sheath? Will a sheah for a small choil fit a knife with a large coil?

Hey Hndo...

Unfortunately with synthetics similar isn't always good enough....
Sometimes yes,, sometimes no...

As for the Hwler with res C sticking...
Basically all that is is a really dry sheath.. To clear that up or avoid it altogether, all it simply takes is a little light lube in the mouth of the sheath.. anything from WD to silicone to armourall works really well..Something light and silicone based is what I usually use..Spray a little on your finger, shake off excess and wipe it inside the mouth of the sheath..

This will make things alot nicer and smooth as silk.

As for the small choil fitting in the large choil sheath..

Yup,, that shouldn't be a problem at all..
I would be more concerned if it were the other way around, however that should work as well....

Eric,

Do you have any options that I could order to attach the (BK7 or Howling Rat) sheath to Molle webbing?

Hey Sabre...

Yes I do have a MOLLE system, however it would need to be built at the same time as the sheath itself..
so basically I could build you an HR with Molle,, but couldn't retro the BK7, unless you send it to me...

Shoot me an email ASAP..
