I purchased two Howling Rats when they first came out and put one away in the safe. Any thoughts on what it is worth would be appreciated. It has never been used and is in perfect condition with a nylon sheath. Thanks in advance.

Gen 1 or Gen 2? (Gen 1 has a shallow choil, Gen 2 a more generous one.)

That may make a $50 difference in price. I'd guess $150-175 for a Gen 2 and $175-225 for a Gen 1.

It IS harder to sell these days b/c so many Busse-fam blades out there.

I picked up my Gen I for $80 or so and I'm sure doubling that would be a good ballpark price to start.

Black or tan?

Tan is rare, I think it was a SAR convention special only.

But please, do yourself a favour, use the knives. The first gen howlers are about the best of the swamp. I have a tan one and trust me it is a user. They are not going to appreciate in value, the Yard has 3 versions of the Keeper out which is basically the same design.

That Tan Howler will be a keeper for sure, re-sale value be damned. I have to thank a crazy cracker in NJ for mine, even though if I had been a little more swift I could have nabbed it at Blade that year.

I know I'd trade my Scrapyard DM for one in a heartbeat, they are a similar knife but for me my DM is just overkill !!!!
