Though, the HR still makes a good little prybar.
There was also a limited run of Howling Fats that were more similiar to the thickness of the Dumpster Mutt... still not quite as thick.
The Howling Rat is a versatile knife- a bit of belly and 3/16" thick. The old res-c HR had similiar material to the DM but still a larger grip. I find the HR res-c grip (also used on the old Bandicoot, plus the variants: INFIcoot and Howling Fat) fits me
much better than the grip on the DM (originally used on the Busse Basic 3's.) The DM/B3 grip feels too small for my hand.
The DM blade? Wow! A .270-.275" thick spike! I can't imagine damaging this blade doing ANYTHING. A very extreme thickness in this size knife...
not that there is anything wrong with that!
GF did sum it up very well - concisely answering you original questions.
HR - All around blade. Still thick compared to many other manufacturer's blades in that size. I've convexed mine and it has a very neutral balance. I can rip thru sheet metal or slice paper.
DM - More singular in use. A sharpened spike with a grip. It dares you to use it hard. I wouldn't want it to be my food prep blade though.
Also, if you want a 3/16, hard-use, nice slicing, camp sized knife with a G10 or micarta, consider one of the RatManDu. I like this A LOT.

There are always the HRLM...
