How's about a cover for the InovaX5's TID?

I sometimes carry this excellent light in a pocket of my coat, or in my bag. I just bought a new Timbuk2 bag and also a new Woolrich...so I'm wondering if there's any "safe" way to carry the Inova with it's TID on it? I don't want to shred the coat or the bag, so I'm trying to figure out a cover for it...any ideas??
Thanks!

I've been considering picking up a TID and thought of the same dilemma. The best bet would probably be a custom kydex holder which would mean more money and possibly parting with it for proper sizing. Another solution was using one of my closed-bottom ASP baton holder since the TID increases the OD to roughly the same as an ASP. The simplest idea I came up with was to cut the thumb from a leather work glove, trim it size, wet it down, stretch it to fit over just the TID, and let it dry to shape. Cheap and easy. Hope this might help give you some ideas. BTW, where'd you purchase your TID from?

To be honest with you, I don't remember where I bought it- it was an on-line site, one of the dealers recommended on the forums(so I know it wasn't Botach!). It was a good price, and I already had the original model but like a lot of other people, wanted it a bit bigger and with an end-button. The T.I.D. was just an after-thought, I'm thinking that I bought that from GG&G...?? At least, I think there were some Gs in the name?? Or maybe that's just the manufacturer's name and I can't remember the company! Those TIDs are wicked, I think once you pick one up and realize that no matter which way you strike with it, up, down, sideways, it will definitely do some ripping. Game plan is to flash the light quickly in the face and then follow up with hopefully a hammer-fist blow to add injury to insult. I put a really cool metallic blue/gray paracord wrap lanyard on it. It's my lucky light. I bought it right after I came back from Cape May last year; several guys on "another" forum told me to buy myself a toy after I almost got myself drowned bringing in a little kid from out deep. No lifeguard, even though the chair and flag was up- the guys were way down the beach at another chair, with a new girl lifeguard (I found out later from our hotel owner, who was plenty pissed).
Anyway, I figured that was as good a reason as any to go ahead and get a new light. Something durable that will remind me of what happened.
A good flashlight helps you find your way, it's a comfort in the dark. The TID just enhances these aspects... Sorry that was so long!

Kelt, you mentioned using paracord for a lanyard on your tactical Inova. The "lanyard" hole on mine seem very sharp around the openings' inside diameter. After some use, has the lanyard start to wear or cut? Or, did you smooth-out the hole edges before installing the lanyard? Thanks.

I don't know if it would be too sharp; it does look like it's got a bit of edge on the outer areas of the hole. I put my "rat-tail wrap" lanyard on a split key-ring after I put the split ring through the flashlight's end-hole. That way, it seems to give it more freedom to move around. It was a bit easier for me to do the wrap this way, I was able to get the loops nice and tight as I went along.

Rastro,
Thanks! That will probably do quite nicely. I don't really need it for carrying on my jeans (but might once I see how well it holds up), but I can rig that up on one of the pockets inside my Timbuk2 bag. Decent enough price for keeping things safe and scrape-free...

I have carried my Innova with TID in coat, vest, jacket pockets and in my Timbuktu bags for almost 6 months. I have experienced no damage in any of the mentioned pockets. Taking a close look you will see that the teeth of the TID is cut so that it orients slightly inwards towards each other. Unless the light is housed in an upright position with the TID facing downwards, it is unlikely to fray pocket linings. Unless one wears tight fitting clothing. Which goes into a related subject. The purpose of the TID is to allow for a suitable impact instrument. While in my various pocket carry modes, I simply go about my business with hands in pocket, already holding the Innova light at the ready. In this regard, any cover on the TID will slow its presentation when needed in a pinch. The problem is compounded if carried in tight fitting clothing... some food for thought.
