Looks like Ill be getting this one in trade and wanted to check with any current users of this blade. How does it do? How does the sheath hold up...? Carry variations???

I got the Idea that it would be my..."bare bones outing " type knife, Where I might carry just a knife and a few other items for a weekend....or maybe even longer. Of course Id probably toss a SAK and a little red DMT in the pouch.

I figured this would be the place to ask. I hate the term "SURVIVAL KNIFE" But you all know what that means, what are the feelings on this blade for that purpose.

What I carry now is a hawk, which seems handy for all sorts of things, and a fixed Gerber Gator drop point. A dedicated chopper and a smaller blade for finer work, seems to work just fine for these woods. Sometimes no hawk. I think this will always be my prefered rig(not neccesarily the brands!) but it seemed it might be nice to just have one tool.

I carry my BK7 just as you describe, with a lighter, SAK, and DMt in the pouch. The sheaths are very tough. Carry options are a tad limited, but better if you have a couple alice clips around. A few zip ties should put it just about anywhere.

When I lived in the southern appalachians I found a machete a great companion in the woods. The BK7 is a little small/lightweight for real chopping, but otherwise is a great all 'round blade.

I've been noticing an increase in sheath sales for the bk-7. It seems to be gaining in popularity. The new Survival Sheath from Specs Ops and myself works great for the blade. A nice combination.

Like was said, the 7 is a little lite to be a serious contender for the chopping machine prize, but it does a good job for it's size and weight. As designed, the sheath is a little limited for a variety of carry options, but I've strapped it to my ruck and worn it normally on my belt, as well as high on my belt, by running 550 from the lower leg strap holes to the belt loop, pulling the belt loop down towards the upfolded lower section of the sheath, then ran my belt through the loop. It shortened the sheath and brought the blade up to where I like it to ride. As for the blade, it's tough, holds a sharp edge and from kitchen duty to bataning, will do whatever you ask it to do. The handle might take some getting used to. Some seem to like it and others not. I guess it depends on what you like and how your hand and the handle fit each other. I like the blade a lot. It comes with me on all of my outings and is perfect for a minimalist outing kit. I placed an altoids tin with gear and a bottle of iodine tabs into the pouch.

Where can I find one of these sheath's? I don't see them at survivalsheath.com?

You're welcome anomad, if you get one, let us know how you like it. Been thinking about the sheath, just havn't done anything about it yet.

The only cons for me are that it is a little light and neutrally weighted for chopping and the handle is a little thick. I can (but haven't yet) take the scales off and sand them down. As for the chopping, it's not bad, just not quite as good as I like.

The pros? Everything else! No kidding. Great blade design, fantastic steel in terms of strength and edge holding, very comfortable and light to carry, and I'm one of the oddballs who actually likes the sheath! DMT, bic lighter, and SAK Huntsman.

To put it in perspective for me, this is my main go-to knife when I'm taking my kids for a day hike in the woods. It rides great on my belt, not too heavy, and if I'm separated from my pack, I can certainly make do with it.

I would score it like this:

pros: 95
cons: 05

This knife is a winner, and in a big way. I think this knife is easily worth double of what they are asking, maybe triple. Don't tell Ethan....
