How's my filework?

I'm no real knifemaker, I just like to modify existing, or make from kits. These are a bit beat up from everyday carry and use and my photography skills make them look even worse, polished areas like the clips look pretty bad in my photos. My style is slowly changing from too-busy sharp symmetric filing designs to minimal flowing soft curves.

Top is DDR2 kit, middle is highly modified DDR3 kit, Last is old REKAT Pioneer.

Goes all the way through. Wish I didn't file the liners though, cause it's too busy and distracts from the spine:

I like fancy clips!

Made some even fancier and nicer, but gave those away as gifts.

Very nice work!

Something to note though. I happen to prefer very crisp filework, with the exception of Van Barnett's "Rolling Ribbon" filework. I know many people who are the same way. Just something to note if you plan on selling any of them someday.

You're right in that it seems that most people prefer the sharp filework visually. For actual carry, the sharp edged filework, isn't as nice. That DDR3 like to trap a LOT of pocket junk in the crevices and wears the pants pocket out over time :-).

Haven't sold any yet. Have given several away as special gifts though. If I sell them, the fun will be gone as it will be work versus a hobby! I might sell a couple one day, but not yet. They end up being labors of love and by giving them away I get to kind of keep them in the family! Running out of friends and family to give them to though!

I'll be your friend! ;)

Great work! Did you send the pics to Darrel? or Knifekits? They love to see what people are doing with the kits.

I like some of your filework, it's definately better than I could do.

That DDR3 like to trap a LOT of pocket junk in the crevices and wears the pants pocket out over time :-).

Now, since you brought this up...I know a well known knife maker that calls filework "dirt catchers" :D

Very creative and nicely executed. Exceptional work for a learning 'maker'.

You should be proud. I suggest to EVERYONE to make a kit sometime with some mods. You'll see.... ;)

I was very impressed with your filework on the clips. The work is great, and it doesn't detract from the overall piece.

Thanks for showing your work.

Too true. Hard to decide between visual appeal and function sometime.

Very nice work though!
