I am unfortunate enough to reside in the People's Republik of New Jersey. Here, it is unlawful for a citizen to carry anything that may even cause "temporary discomfort" to another person. I'm not kidding. Basically anything sharper than a Q-tip is illegal. But I've that I'm not going to live like that and carry my Mini Grip anyway.

So how is it where you live? Are in the same position as me or do you not have to worry about it?

We actually have a separate forum here at bf.c for knife laws and knife law issues. You might get a better response there.

We can carry what we want down here as long as we have killed less than 3 people without just cause. That's not entirely true, there is a state law against carrying an icecream cone in your back pocket on sundays, strange but true.

Tacgeek, I'll move this over to the knife laws forum for you with a redirect.

Not too bad here in Tennessee. Our blade length limit is 4".

Virginia is pretty free as regards carrying folders and fixed blades at the state level. There are some local jurisdictions that have restricted blade lengths, Richmond comes to mind. Virginia is not so free regarding switchblades and gravity blades, as I understand it, despite what others have said.

BTW, Virginia also has a "Shall Issue CCW law" and allows open carry of firearms in most jurisdictions. They do limit them in certain locations, however.

Sucks to be you.....
As for 'temporary discomfort' I would likely get hauled in on looks alone in your neck of the woods. I carry a Buck 110 and a Vic Swiss Champion and a Gerber Ridge and have an illegal 7" Blackjack Bowie (Randall Model 1 knock-off) under the truck seat.
Then again I am a Texas country boy who tones it down slightly when I go 'to town'.... I take the Ridge off my keychain.:p

I have no blade length limits, and I can carry any blade(s) concealed or unconcealed. (except I cannot carry switchblades)

With a Carry permit for firearms (MN is a shall-issue state) I can carry any firearms either concealed or unconcealed. I could legally walk around with a carbine on my shoulder and pistols in my hands. I could even run around with a wheelbarrow full of guns and ammo. (not that I want that kind of attention)

Not bad for a "blue" state. . .

CT isn't too bad- we can carry up to a 4" edged portion. We can also carry switchblades under 1.5" blade length.

If you look in my topic a few topics down from this I can apparently carry whatever I want here in South Dakota with ballistic knives being the exception.

North Carolina and Arizona have open carry laws on the books, easy to(well legal i should say) carry anything openly, including auto's, firearms, etc. I grew up in Northern Illinois, thought that it sucked, came back from the Marines and thought it really sucked, moved to NC, enjoyed it, moved to Texas thought it wasn't bad(no balisongs or auto's, concealled carry is available), moved to AZ found its not bad here, bali and auto friendly here, so long as the blades not over the legal limit. Check out NC, esp since its along the east coast, cheaper to live there, and much more friendlier people(compared to, say for instance, Camden, NJ)

I think I would like to move to Minnesota. Gotta check with the wife first. Maryland gun laws stink - permit only issued if you can prove there is an immenent threat to your life, if you are a businessman with large sums of money to deposit, or you a a retired LEO.

Weapon laws are quite nice here in Northern Idaho. I've spoken to local police officers, as well as a lawyer, read the statutes and everything else I could possibly find. The answers I recieved were much to my liking.:)

Basically, you can carry whatever the hell you want, as long as it isn't concealed. Officers flat out said, "you can carry brass knuckles if you would like, just as long as you find a way to open carry them". Another cop saw a large fixed blade on my belt, asked "why do you carry such a large weapon?", after I told him that it was a "useful tool" his response was a smile, along with "well, I would recomend you carry a pistol anyway."

There are no blade length restrictions either.
