How's the deployment speed on the Umnumzaan?

Very smoothly and it was quick for me. Also keep in mind that if you are used to the nice thwack that the Sebbie has, you won't have it on the Unumzaan. There are rubber O rings on the thumb studs, so it is silent opening.

I love the feel of the Umnumzaan opening. It's so smooth but a different kind of smooth than any knife I've ever opened and the silent lockup is awesome. One of my favorite things about it.

I've had mine for a couple of weeks now and its still so stiff that it won't open any more than 30-50% with a thumb flick, not good IMO. My sebbie will easily thumb flick, and its butter smooth too.

Its super smooth and I like the quietness of the lock; however I despise the smoothness of the thumb studs and its location, I can't seem to get enough purchase on it for quick and consistent blade deployment.

Don't try to put your thumb on the top of the thumbstud. Rather, put your thumb on the blade right behind the thumbstud & push forward.

I've tried that and it still doesn't deploy like my sebbies do. That method is fine if you just want to open it, but as a so called 'tactical' type knife it should be flickable IMO. its just got too much tension on the pivot, I'm gonna have to get the take down kit.

I have owned 2 Umnumzaans and they both were tight when new but after a thousand or so openings became very smooth and easy just like a Seb.

Actually on second thought I would say that they open easier than a Seb because the detent isn't quite as strong and the thumbstud isn't painful to use like a Seb one.

I think CRK has to send them tight....doesnt take much to back off the pivot a hair....could be done with a set of snap ring pliers or you can be resourceful....also you can hold the lock bar open and see if the blade moves freely...if so ,it's also easy to bend a little tension out of the lock bar.

IMO ,these Zaans really do operate very smooth and free.....there should be NO reason that it can't be flicked at the speed of a millennium falcon...really. :)

This is very true but hard to understand until you have the knife in your hand. The lower pivot is responsible for the difference, I think. Once you get the knack, it's totally unconscious and just as fast as a Sebenza.
