How's the M43 compare

I'm looking for some hands on advice. I recently put in my order for a M43. I've wanted on since they were available and put it at the top of my wish list. I would like to know from those who have other models how it would compare say to an AK for chopping and to a GS or Chitlangi for martial arts function. Also, how would you rate it for a backpacking and hiking knife?

"Just about perfect", huh?

The World War II 16.5/18" would be "just about perfect" as a wife.

The M43 would be "just about perfect" as a mistress.

Hmmmm. I've got the wives covered. For a qualitative anaylsis, looks like I need to look into M43stress!

The M43's I've seen here in the forum are beautiful, but appear more worker than martial artist, assuming the lighter chitlangis or Gelbu Specials and Sirupatis are actually lighter. There have been some heavier models of those too.

You'll have to tell us if your M43 is a good back packer. They seem to approach 2 lbs. Most at about 27 oz, if I had to estimate. Some are lighter, and heavier.

My 18"GS and M43 (also 18") weigh about the same. If I had to choose between the two I dont know how I would do it.

Rusty's comment is accurate.

I've used 3 M-43s to date. They aren't the choppers that some of the other styles are, (e.g. YCS), but are far more effective than others, like the Sirupati.

In general, I find the design to be a natural user. They are much more weight-forward than any Kobra, Siru or GS that I've ever held. If you're looking for a martial-arts blade, the M-43 might not be it.

This style seems to vary widely by Kami. Kesar and Sher make excellent versions, IMO.
