Has anyone been to the knife show in Novi, MI before? I think it's April 22 this year. What type of show is it (user grade, art knives, a little of everything)? Anyone have a list or link of a list to the makers who will be there? It's about a 3 hour drive each way, but I don't know if it'd be worth it to go or not. Thanks in advance!

Yeah, you're probably right. I skipped out on the Chicago custom knife show, too, last year, which is theoretically about three hours for me. Maybe the amount of $$$ I have to spend will make my decision for me! :D

Oh, and I found a website for the show, but no info about who's there, etc. I put an email into one of the organizers, so hopefully that'll pan out. I'll share what I find out...

I wish I could make it. I have the worst luck attending shows and hammerins, it seems like the planners purposely exclude me :). Maybe I can stop by for an afternoon at least.

As a member of the WKCC, I guess it's up to me to try and answer. And apologize for our flaky website. I have tossed out my latest newsletter lising all the participants, but one more is due before the show. I'll get you guys a list ASAP. I'm not as much into Custom knives as you guys are, I try and buy one good handmade 'User' per year (by a Michigan maker), but if I don't find what I like, I concentrate on old production knives.

I guess the list, when I post it, will tell the tale for you. I like the show, for obvious reasons (membership & only an hour from home), but again, I don't collect customs. The members do display some very nice collections: One lady has an excellent miniture display, there was a 'collection of one' last year... a Micheal Price dagger (like how many times am I gonna get the chance to handle one of those??), a HUGE display of Fight'n Roosters, ect.

Kovals is there, of course. Phillip Booth with his neat little knives (I like his table display... it is up high, you don't have to lean down, the Blade Show doesn't allow it), KNIFE WORLD MAGAZINE which means the very friendly/knowledgable Mark Zeleski (he is one of the judges as well), Jot Singh Khlasa (hard to miss him at a show-- he is the one without a cowboy hat).

Yes, Chiro, a little of everything.

Lots of parking... but you have to pay. The Novi expo center is a nice place for a show, plenty of hotels, places to eat, real close.

Again, More to come.
Phil

Is it okay to tell people that the latest copy of Blade has a coupon to get into the show for $1 instead of $5? I don't want to eat into your profits! I'm about 80% sold already, but I'd still like to see the list. Thanks!

I may be up for the trip, it's about a 3 hour drive for me too.

I'm looking forward to seeing the list.

It's a good show. I'll be there, as will some other Michigan makers and Bud Weston from the Czech Republic; we will be playing a little bluegrass on Saturday.

Are you serious, Don? Is Bud bringing one of his banjos? I'm picking him up from the airport so I hope he gives me some warning if he's planning to bring musical instruments AND knives.

Man - knives and bluegrass! I might have to make that trip down after all!

I've never been to this show, but you guys ALL need to make it to the Janesville, WI show in a couple of weeks! 1-3 April 2005. Be there! :)

Can I drive there in 4 hours? ;)

Unfortunately I went last year and wasn't all that impressed.
I still would like to make it to this years show and maybe it'll be different.

I guess I was just expecting more since I usually go to the comic con at the expo center and it's much larger. I think I was expecting something of that magnitude.

Just got my last newsletter before the show. I am only showing 'custom' stuff, not the many factory and other dealers that will be there. Anyone want a full size copy of the entire participant list can email me.

Hope ya come, hope ya enjoy the show!

Holger, bud *said* he was bringing his banjo this year (he borrowed one last year), but I guess we'll see. It will be a very good show.

Don, I own a cheap Fender banjo that I could bring for Bud to use. Since I'm picking him up from the airport on the 19th, I'll ask him then. When does this jam session take place? I definitely don't want to miss THAT!

Well, I'm very much looking forward to this! Unfortunately the knives I had expected to sell before the show for some funny money are sitting here waiting on material so I can wrap my handles. Damn!

Holger, several of us pick at our tables for much of the weekend, but we all get together and play on Saturday. It's a hoot!
