First off, is it "Hot Rolled' 1095 versus "Cold Rolled Annealed?"

I bought my first batch of 1095 from Admiral steel last week. I chose HR1095 instead of the CRA1095. My question is: which is better for stock removal?

The HR1095 grinds fine, but seems to be nearly impossible to profile with a hacksaw. Is it my hacksaw? I have generic blades. Which blades should I try?

I ended up using a dremel-type tool with a grinding disk to cut my profile. Would I have been better off choosing CRA for stock removal?

Thanks!

Mike

"HR" is left in a rough state. Has mill scale on it and not taken to a finished size. "CR" is de-scaled and taken a step further to finished specifications and costs more.

Hello,

Actually the cold rolled annealed is harder to cut and work in my experiance. I always try to get Hot rolled annealed as it cuts and blanks out eiasier on my bandsaw and grinds easier.
