Short sword 23" 5mm Thick at tang
Distil taper 5-4-3-2.5mm
FFG bevels still being filed in, almost done.
This blade will be having hamon, and sent off for HT next week. I need to decide on a specific HRC for the edge (as per HT admin forms) 26C3 has quite a lot of carbon, so I was thinking maybe around 60, not too high. Also maybe a relief temper, I can request set amount of desired temper cycles.
What do you guys think? It will have hamon and soft spine around 50 HRC or a little less, so it should be stable enough and not completely fail, what about the edge though, 26C3 can be stable at high HRC but I'm thinking shoot low for this.
Hamon will continue over the ricasso of handle area if this helps to know.
Handle will have 1 lanyard at 8mm and maybe two 6mm peened pins, probably going with Micarta scales. This is basically a hybrid European and Japanese blade, think Wakizashi blade on a western handle. Not really a machete, will have convex edge grind no secondary bevel. Not sure if I'm adding Yokote as I haven't forged it in, so will probably be Hira Zukuri geometry, with thin Niku, more of a light slashing blade.
Uploading images of blade during grinding process.

High carbon content, long blade , thin edge, I wouldnt run the edge much harder than 56-58rc, and would aim to leave the spine soft as possible, bending your sword is less dangerous than snapping it.
Have a look at some Larrins graphs.

What part of Larrins charts are you reading there, because according to what I see 26C3 toughness peaks when tempered at 450F, which gives HRC of roughly 61.
The charts show the toughness at it's highest at 450F temper, and after cross reference 450F gives 61 HRC, or am I missing something?

Oh I thought you found something in Larrins charts that said lower is tougher. I had to double check it to make sure I wasn't mistaken.
Yup I'm going with the recommended optimal numbers. I wanted to see if anybody else had made a large blade from this steel before as well, and see what hardness and HT type they went with.
