I assume it can be done. How does everyone do it? I'm talking not "huge" blades here, about 12" blade. I'm thinking of a couple of small machetes and a couple of medium khukris. I've tried to covex these edges, but I just haven't got the hang of it and I'd like to get them sharp.

Do you screw it to the workbench, work in sections? etc? I don't recall seeing anything, but I do have the video, so if its there, just let me know.

Thanks!

the machetes can be done, sure, but the kuks might be tough, due to the curve. you can sharpen anything on the 204, as long as you're getting the angle you need, and you're able to draw the blade thru the "V" safely and with control.

The bigger khuks are going to be a problem, the size and the curve both.

Would you try to do the machete in sections? I don't have mine screwed into a bench, it just sits on the table.

well, at 12", you're not much longer than a typical 10" chef's knife, so i would just pull the whole thing through, and see what results you get. my 204 is also "loose" and not mounted to anything, and i sharpen some pretty big knives on it anyway. if it seems too unwieldy, then you may try it in sections, but keep in mind that maintaining a burr along the edge is going to become a bit iffy.

of course, you can always lay those stones flat on the top or bottom of the Sharpmaker, and use it like a flat stone if all else fails. just be sure to hold a decently consistent angle.
