I've recently come across HTM knives. This brand is new to me and i know nothing about them. The designs and materials look really nice (especially the Gun Hammer). S30V , S90V , titanium ,CF , etc. So they definitely have my attention. Not sure if they are a mid tech or full on production company (?)

So what's the word on HTM ? Anyone own or have experience with their knives ? Hows the quality and fit&finish ?

Click on mqqn's quote in my Sig... Or do a search. They aren't very regarded in these parts.

I would stay away. I love the designs and materials used, but the QC seems to be spotty at best, nonexistant at worst. Go to their subforum and read up on what happened with the forum knife. Not a pretty business, and reason enough for me to stay away until I see some pretty major evidence of positive change.

I will do a search and check out the sub forum. Just saw a few vids on YouTube and they were all negative.

There was a thread in feedback recently about them. Suspiciously, the only people who defended them were a couple of new people with no posts...

I really want to love them because the Gunhammer is a fantastic design and they use all of the newest steels, but it might not be worth the risk anymore. I had an HTM Gunhammer that developed issues very quickly, which HTM took care of (but somehow added massive lock stick) but at this point in collecting I'm sick of having to send things back when they ought to be better out of the box. It's a shame, because the new 4" Ti framelock GH looks awesome!

I'm batting 50-50 so far. The first Gunhammer I bought was perfect and has remained perfect. The lock stick on the second Gunhammer was so bad that I had to send it back. HTM repaired it, hand-rubbed the blade to boot, and returned it to me in about six to eight weeks. Since then it's been perfect. Would I buy any more HTM's? Only if I had a chance to inspect them first.

I have considered HTM several times. After doing some research, I'd rather not roll the dice at this point. Not trying to slam them, but there are other options that get it right the first time. I have the financial means to purchase HTM products, don't have the disposition to deal with the possible aggravation. It would be nice to see them get squared away because I think they have a lot to offer from a design and material standpoint.

Wise and sad at the same time. I find it hard to accept that DDR would continue to allow his name to be associated with iffy QC. All I can figure is that somebody else is in charge of the operation. And even if HTM's QC gets turned around (which it already may have for all I know), I have no idea how they're going to undo the damage their reputation has suffered. Darrel is simply too good a knifemaker and designer (as well as being one of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet) to have had to suffer such an indignity. Thank heaven his customs are still among the very best money can buy.

In my exploration of different knife brands and styles (dif than the usual types I buy) I have chosen to stay away from HTM. Between the feedback from you guys here and the mostly negative YouTube vids I've watched today I think I will look at other knives. This forum has once again saved me money , time and trouble. Thanks all.

That is a good idea, we don't need to drag that mess over here. There is a thread in Feedback and another in their own forum that can answer just about any questions you may have.

One more thing. I have to believe HTM knives are getting better if for no other reason than some of the biggest online sellers are still carrying them. I'd imagine those sellers would have dropped the line long ago if returns had become a serious problem. At least I'd like to think so.

Agree dealing with him online and meeting him in person, I would respectfully disagree.

Not that I have looked recently but it always seems to be old stock and constantly at step discounts.
