Anytime you get enough huckleberries to make anything more than a mouthful in the field is a roaring success.

Nice!

Aint that the truth. Or the fact that any made it home....Those things have a way of getting eatin on the way back.

Nice foragin bro.

Love Huckleberries - we get em in blue and reddish pink here in the PNW. Makes the best pancakes and cobbler.

I see jewel weed in the background of the goose shot. Great stuff for poison ivy/bull nettles or any kind of skin irritation. Has little yellow or orange flowers later in season

Yes, we call them "Touch me nots" no shortage of those around here. Didnt know about the medicinal use, Thanks.

Now that you got the dog to find g-strings, you better get him trained to find the chick who was wearing them :-)
What up for me, I'm on my way!

This made me laugh! Thanks.

I've never had a blueberry I dislike. Huckleberries taste similarly?

I have always called the "Wild" variety of Blueberry a "Huckleberry" so yes, the taste is the same but more intense. The tame variety that folks grow at home are much bigger. If you want enough of the wild ones for a pie or some such thing,,,pack a lunch cause its going to be a long day.

This was on my mind but not like you think. A few years ago a Women was murdered in another town far from here. They found her body burned and buried in a shallow grave less than a mile from my house. That was my first thought and I did look over the area for any other evidence. 25yrs or so ago I would have just thought some guy got Lucky. But Times are Ah Changing my Friend.

I believe both huckleberries and blueberries are in the same family but I think those are blueberries. Then again I could be wrong, in any case great photos!

Yeah, they're the wild version of blue berries.

Did you see the rattlesnake while you were wading around in the huckleberries? I don't know about you, but when you're on those powerlines and open meadows where you find huckleberries, sometimes the thickness and lack of ability to see where you are walking gives me the creeps. The bears like them a lot too. You can certainly run onto one in those areas.

I saw the rattler on the way in, I was in my jeep as it was crossing in front of me. This area I pick at is loaded with rattlers so I always get out with my walking stick and swoosh it around in the bushes Ill be picking from first off. It gives me the heebie-jeebies too but I still do it.
