Nice looking axe there. What's the head weight? How long is it? Looks like a good 'un.

I hung one recently on a handle that I got for free. The grain is perfectly opposite of perfect alignment (just like yours). I beat the crap out of it the other day with no issues so we'll see.

Thanks. Ill have to get some measurements this evening and get you fellas some more info.

The handle is a vaughn that I reworked. Unfortunately the grain sucks but its what I had. The nearest good hardware store is about 400 roadless miles away (chuckle).

Ive got a piece of leather shaped and stitched for covering the head. Waiting on brass snaps.

And I still need to put an edge on it.

Its definitely a work in progress
 
That's a nice old one , I like the hudson style...

I always prefer to do any needed work before helving. Whether clamped in the vise for filing or at the grinder a handle just gets in my way. YMMV.
