Hopefully I'm posting this in the right spot....

I've had this stag bowie marked Bulldog Brand for a while. I now primarily collect only Buck knives and only have posted in the Buck sub-forum, but still wanted to get some information about this big Bowie knife I have. It measures over 14"s with the sharpened part of the blade being 9". It is thicker than any other knife I have seen and is over 1/4". The Bulldog Brand tang mark is unlike any other I have seen, it is done with cursive/scroll writing. The Stag is a wonderful large piece and the knife is really well built. I was hoping someone would know a little more about this bowie and also have an idea of what it might be worth. Thanks for looking and all your help:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

I am totally unfamiliar with Bulldog Brand, but that is a lovely knife.

You might want to post this in the Bernard Levine subforum, since that is where people typically manage to get things identified.

Well, Bulldog pocket folding knives always have a tang STAMP which will contain their name or logo - the fighting dogs- and on the other side, Bulldog Brand, Hammer Forged,Solingen, Germany. I would expect fixed blades also to have a stamp. Yours looks like a machine engraving, so it might be anything.

Thanks for the info!! That is what I also have coke up with fro all the Bulldog brand tang stamps I've seen. Doesn't it seem odd for someone to go through the effort of machine stamping such a nice knife anything other than what it actually is? I could see if the knife was poor quality, but if I made this knife I'd want my mark on it.....Thanks again

I believe Bulldog is still around selling knives. You may be able to contact them. Their website lists Parker's knife show and the fact they sell on e-bay under "silverladdie". You can send an e-mail through the site.

Can't say about the etching, but it looks like an early stage handled Cold Steel Trailmaster, right down to the sheath. But, I dunno.

What I thought also. Possibly re-handled CS Trailmaster.--KV

Could still be a bulldog though ;) IIRC neither Cold Steel or Bulldog actually manufacture knives, it's all contract work.

The Brass butt and guard do look exactly the same. I have to say the stag on mine is a little nicer than the few I have found. I appreciate you pointing me in the right direction!!
