Guys, is there anyone who can reshape the handles on a Busse (G-10 I think) if they are tooooo fat?

Thanks!

Wear a respirator if you are going to sand G10. The dust is bad for your lungs.

hlee type's faster than i do. you can use sandpaper on g-10, but you better have a dust mask on. if you don't want to do it yourself ask some of the knifemaker's on here like horton or leatherman.

Definitely wear a good dust mask, at least one of the disposables with 2 straps, the thinner ones with a single strap usually let a lot of air in through the sides, and G10 is fiberglass based...

For something personal like a handle it's probably best to do it yourself so you can feel exactly where the it needs to be thinned or smoothed and you can get a perfect custom fit.

yes be very careful if you sand g-10 STR sent him self to the ER the first time he worked with g10 made his lung bleed

.

It is fairly easy to shape with a powered sanding equipment, but will take a long time by hand. Yes, you will need a good face mask for lung protection.

you can always wet the g10/micarta during the process to keep the dusting under control, but as previous writers says, use a good dust mask, cause this stuff can kill you!

Start with a file or even a rasp for rough shaping, then finish with sandpaper. If you can do it outside, with a mask, even safer. Go slow, check shape often. Make sure you have some cold beers handy :D

If you like the shape just not the thickness, you could remove them, sand the flats on a belt sander to thin them and then re-attach them. There have been atleast 2 or 3 tutorials posted before...

Gee. I must live dangerously. I made hand-shaped handles for a FBM with no breathing equipment NOR power tools. Took my time, didn't raise any dust, and didn't die or have to go to the ER.

Sore fingers after, but I didn't want to go too fast and end up with bad handles.

I would add that your results will be faster if you use sanding belt material so you can work the grip like polishing a shoe.

You should also wear eye protection, G10 glass is as bad for the eyes as it is for your lungs.

Just for the unknowing... THIS = bad. This is a cheap dust mask.

Frankly, I wouldn't grind on G10 with any dust mask.

THIS = good. This is a respirator.

Seems like people are being a little loose with terminology in a spot or two in this thread, and I'd hate for MNJON's lungs to bleed as a result.

Of course, Ducci also adds a combat helmet and a Kevlar vest when he grinds just for good measure.

Good Lord...you have found the lost cyborg from "Terminator Salvation" !
This one has been missing from stage set, and they are offering huge money for anyone who knows its whereabout.
Go for it...the money will be well worth for the coming Blade show :D
