:eek:Howdy all,

Occasionally(very rarely) we hear of a bad customer service experience with Buck. I always have to wonder since there are 2 sides to every story. Anyway, I have never had anything but great customer service experiences with anyone at BKI.

My newest experience and reason for this thread concerns a 4th version 1st variation 110. I bought it off the the bay about a year ago. The pic wasnt great but I took a chance since it appeared to be and inverted 2 liner that would respond well to a spa. When it arrived, I was correct, a t liner that would buff and sharpen up nicely exept it has a blade that curves to the right and touches the liner.

I wrapped it and put it in the vise to try and straighten it but quickly decided that was a poor decision and I would in all lilelyhood break it. I contacted Joe to see if he thought his guys could straighten it with the understanding that if it broke, I would just pay for a reblade. Here is the good part....He takes a look at the pics and says that, that shouldnt be like that and that the blade was probably not hardened correctly at the factory(40 plus years ago:eek:) and that I should send it back, he would remove the blade, send it though the rockweller to soften it up, straighten the blade, heat treat properly and reinstall. Oh by the way, he said it was warranty:eek:  . Remember, I bought it 40 years later, whether I was the 2nd, 3rd or 100th owner didnt matter to him, Forever warranty means forever. What a company!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to Buck for truly building a great product and standing behind it 40 years later if one slipped by not quite right.

Thanks especially to Joe, who is the face of Buck to us and to anyone who has an issue that needs resolved with their Buck knife. Joe, I couldnt be happier with this and the other knives you recently handled for me. THANKS!

Here are the before and after pics.

Again, another reason to buy from Buck Knives. I have seen a few newer blades bent like this one, but just a few. What I have not seen are older 110's that were bent in the same fashion as yours. Any way you cut it, Buck comes through as one of the top notch knife makers extant as evidenced by their sterling customer service.

I will agree BKI is awsome,

Mr Joe Houser and staff are without a doubt a great bunch of guys-girls that do take care of their customers and also the history of the company. Having sent in a few myself I was surprised a little but since being a BF Member I have learned That Buck does it Right when it is at all possible very nice knife and what a company, my only regret is the few i still have to get rid of as I seem to get rid of one then buy 2 or 3 more and I do not see an end in site. I give BKI an A+ as both Customer Service and as a Company trying to do the right thing when at all possible, Thanks for sharing imafritz and enjoy that 2 liner with the new heat treat 40 years later what company does that ? BKI

Man, they took care of you! It almost looks brand new.

Looking great! How did they get that shine back?

Thanks guys indeed they did take care of me, as always.

Wallbright, I believe they do the same thing as if they were finishing a brand new one: lightly grind all the way around the brass, polish and sharpen the blade and put it through the Harper Buffer to shine her up. Whatever the process, it works. I have sent many back for the spa and actually have 4 others to post here at some point, I'll start a new thread for that.

You said it

When you compare that to some of the stories you hear about other brands, it really helps you appreciate what a top-notch outfit Buck is.

I love it,that old knife looks new again, how can anyone have a bad experience with their customer service?I'm in Canada and get treated like royaly when i deal with Buck, and Joe Houser goes out of his way to make sure you are taken care of,Buckmmade a great choice when they hired Joe on,hopefully he never leaves the company.LOL

I'm just starting on my knife addiction (compared to many of you), but after I bought my Buck Vantage I swore off imports. Amazing knife, amazing warranty, made in the USA.

That knife looks great!! I have only sent one in for spa work and it came back like new. I do have to get one more in for a re-blade because of a bad grinder job.

A question for the Buck collectors: Wouldn't a "spa" treatment that polishes up the brass bolsters reduce the value and collectability of a vintage knife? I mean, for most collectible knives, the patina on the brass should be consistent with the age of the piece. Collectors generally want in as original condition as possible. Now straightening the blade and all that, I get. But why try to make a vintage collectible look like new? Unless it's just not worth much and you plan to use it anyways. Just curious

Not always. I have many knives that would be worhless because of the usary marks, but becaue of the care Buck takes, it increases value. Take this 2 dot for example: it is of no value in the condition I received it, and I bought it as a user, but after the spa, it seems brand new. THe uninitiated would buy this knife after spa for 50-$75 easy. I paid in the teens and only wanted it as a 440c user. This knife, because of Buck's care, shows only one sign of refurbish, a tapered rear section of rear bolster. Otherwise, I doubt most of us would determine it to have been modified. I have had several vintage 110's spa'd and it only increased value.

Gotta tell you. Buck is the best. I sent my Dad's 112 in for clean up. Just like what is posted here, they really cleaned it up nice. Thanks Buck.

Wow~! Another shining example. Joe really is a huge friend to us; I still owe him a bottle of bourbon, after a similar experience. It's coming, Joe, I promise, soon as money's a little less tight! (Haven't been able to buy myself any lately either...)
