Hughie Bartug

I am a big time fan of his work as well as the person behind it, but only have one piece from Ashley Forge. I know he we free with his knowledge to a lot of makers and that is one of the things I look for.

Hughie Bartug?

I remember Hugh Bartrug's work very well. Most impressive stuff.

Hugh was a real gem. Ashley Forge was named after a grand daughter.

If anyone is interested in his work they should check out Jim Weyer's "Knives, Points of Interest" series. Some of those knives are really spectacular. He was a great maker and ahead of his time.

Yes, Hugh was waaaay before his time. I know several guys who mentored under him.
A friend of mine come on a small collection recently. 2 fixed blades, a lockback folder , a hawk and a double bit hatchet. Really nice stuff!!
I'll try andf get some better pictures and get someone to post 'em. I let my knifemakers status expire.

Although I presently don't own any of his knives he is one of my heroes. Especially his damascus was way ahead of the rest even now. In one of Weyer's books is a pic of the last piece of damascus he made and the chatoyancy in that piece is out of this world.

I never owned one of his knives either, however like them very much.
I feel his designs were way before their time.
You can find outstanding examples of his work in Weyer's "Points of Interest" III & IV.
