After fixing the sheath with the button clip, I wanted to see what could be done with the handle. It's big and comfy as is, but not exactly designed for delicate tasks, of course the same could be said for the GK! I have a number of these as I made a bulk purchase from England and got them dirt cheap. I looked around and saw some nice looking "bushcraft" knife handles and, after comparing them to the pic of a GK tang, I hit the garage and went crazy with a saw, files, and sandpaper. This is what's left:
It looks like hell, but feels great! The handle material is soft and I found carving with a razor to be the best way to really sculpt it. There's no way I can figure to make the finish look nice, but it has a pleasant texture for use. Unfortunately, the sheath doesn't have the original retention, but I solved the issue by relocating the small piece of shockcord I had added to the sheath. The stock sheath now works great again. Please critique..alot. I may still change it around. A buddy wants to take his to a true scandi grind and this may be a good handle paired with that sort of edge. Thanks for looking and please post up any cheap knife handle mods you've done so we can all get some ideas. Take care.
