After fixing the sheath with the button clip, I wanted to see what could be done with the handle. It's big and comfy as is, but not exactly designed for delicate tasks, of course the same could be said for the GK! I have a number of these as I made a bulk purchase from England and got them dirt cheap. I looked around and saw some nice looking "bushcraft" knife handles and, after comparing them to the pic of a GK tang, I hit the garage and went crazy with a saw, files, and sandpaper. This is what's left:

It looks like hell, but feels great! The handle material is soft and I found carving with a razor to be the best way to really sculpt it. There's no way I can figure to make the finish look nice, but it has a pleasant texture for use. Unfortunately, the sheath doesn't have the original retention, but I solved the issue by relocating the small piece of shockcord I had added to the sheath. The stock sheath now works great again. Please critique..alot. I may still change it around. A buddy wants to take his to a true scandi grind and this may be a good handle paired with that sort of edge. Thanks for looking and please post up any cheap knife handle mods you've done so we can all get some ideas. Take care.

I think that's a great mod. I have a Hultafors but I don't use it much. It is, however, great if you're wearing gloves.

Thanks guys. It is a hard working knife and seems designed for gloved use, showing it's tool roots. I played with this new design today and like it a lot. It's a beast of a blade, but can do whatever is needed and was comfortable. I was cutting, slicing, drilling, and light batonning on seasoned live oak and mesquite. It stropped back to a razor's edge afterward. Thanks again and take care.

42Blades gave me a tip which worked pretty well. The sanding leaves tiny "fibers" or curls of plastic. Applying heat melts them back into the handle. I gently applied heat from a lighter and cleaned up some of the whitish areas. I didn't work too hard on it, but it works. The handles on the knives are so easy to shave and file/sand. You can do anything with them. Good luck and let us know what you end up with.

May take a bit, I am it will take a while and strategy to get another one sent to my APO address in Korea
