So its that time of year again and I am thinking of putting together another group to go squid fishing. Its one of the most fun times I have ever had fishing. You head 18 miles out of Half Moon Bay and start at about 1200' and dont stop until your arms fall off. If you get sick usually a Dramamine before you go does the trick.:barf: If you like squid and calamari this will be the best you ever had.

Let me know if you are interested. Heres a couple pics from years past.:D

Dude, I would love to go out to see. I love fishing and have been avid fisherman most of my life. I just can't do deep sea. Something about the swells that get to me. Haven't tried it in a few years though. I tried about 10 times out to sea and got sick every single time. Dramamine, ginger, chinese secret, wrist bands, etc.... tried them all as well. Might try it again though. But 18 miles out is hella far from land :o:confused:

Just depends on the weather. Some days it will be like glass and others 25' swells. Maybe now that you are doing yoga you will be fine.

Yeah its possible that I won't get sick anymore. But then again....you guys may all be having fun and I'd be heaving and suffering the whole time :D

alrighty... I gotta take off for class now. Be back later this evening.

man.. cool pics Nate... that's some crazy sh*t... as much as i love fishing, i don't think i would be able to go 18 miles out either...:o

Nate, if I were on the West coast...I would be there in a heartbeat! Great shots though man. Whats the fight like with one of those babies on the line?!

Nice, I remember you showing me a video from 1-2 years back where they change colors after being on the surface. I'd be interested in going depending how much it cost.

Well Id hate to have you guys puking the whole time. A quick search of those patches Jaytock is talking about and people say they work. Might be worth trying once.

Brendan...the fight depends at what depth you hook them at. Its like reeling up dead weight that surges every once in a while. From 1200 ft even with nothing on the line it tires you out. You cant give them any slack because the hooks are barbless and they come right off. The first time I went all the old guys were in the cabin after 1 squid. The most I ever caught was 15. If you are lucky they will rise as a school and can come all the way up to the side of the boat where they attack each other. It pretty crazy. If they are next to the boat you drop the lure in and you are guaranteed one.

Jaytock....its a squid jig exactly like the one in the bottom of this pic. Those plastic sections are glow in the dark. You drop to whatever depth they are and reel up and dont stop. And a 2 speed reel is key. You get steaks about an 1" thick. I'll have to find the pics I have of cleaning them. Their beaks are like a parrot beak.

Thanks guys! I may have to give those patches a try on the next deep sea fishing trip.

I would like to go and do some pig or duck hunting this year. My Merkel side-by-side and my .243 Tikka is dying to go out in the field again.

awesome shots!

last year i caught one by hand in a shallow bay down in baja sea of cortez side.

it was in at low tide hunting crabs, then it became the hunted.

i grabbed it and just ran to shore where it promptly inked me as i threw it on the beach.

we ate well that day...and the next.

ill dig up the pics

Good going Edgemaster  Nothing like fresh calamari! Pics or else it didn't happen :p

That sounds funny as hell. Lets see some pics.

Norcal, thanks for posting that pic. Hopefully I'll make it out west one day and get a chance to fish for those beasts, I'll have to keep in mind to stay away from those wicked beaks!

Ban, if you're ever in Texas you could 'thin out' some of these little devils.

woah... do you raise those things? What the heck are they? Javelina? Look like Giant Guinea Pigs.

These pics were taken on a friends ranch in West Texas. They are indeed Javelinas, which have been semi-trained/domesticated to come in for food. The pic doesn't show the entire herd, but I believe their are about 45 of them in that one particular herd. They are tame enough to eat out of a cup held in the hand, or to root corn from underfoot, but you still have to stay pretty cautious(hence the five-seven on the hip.)

Nate, I don't know if you now oakietree (Matt) from up in Mendocino. He's an avid fisherman and ocean hunter, I'm betting he'd LOVE to come down for this if he can. Can I shoot him this thread?

Depending on costs and when it is, I'm probably down too. Haven't been fishing since I was a wee lad though. But I don't remember ever getting sea sick and this looks like fun :)

Russell...sure you can send him the link. I will keep everyone posted on the squid.

Jaytock....Ive always wanted to take a javelina with my bow.
