humpback stockman or canoe, as a backup?

hi guys need some help and maybe a couple pics

currently I'm often carrying this setup:

stockman + TK4
trapper/canoe + TK4 or
other + TK4

the TK4 from fallkniven is my lightweight, slim, tough harder use knife, food knife and such
I like it very much but sometimes I lack a small blade when eg. Carrying the trapper, so I do feel the need for a smaller blade too

So, I’m looking for a knife to partially substitute the TK4 which I will still carry when working
one I can use for food, harder use (cutting dirty stuff or harder stuff but no abuse or nonsense use btw) without worrying to damage (excessively) my main knife, with a small and a larger blade budget is pretty low now (like 50$)
here are 2 candidates I like and that fit the budget:

humpback stocky 3 5/8" rough black

canoe rough black 3 5/8"

I recently got a #66 calf roper which is actually perfect as a backup or knife with smaller blades, but it’s a bit expensive and not stainless

Both the TK4 and the #66 calf roper are lightweight, slim enough for the waistbag so this is an important prerequisite

Here comes the help I need...which would you take over the 2 pictured above? Which one is slimmer? Any other candidates?
Thanks
Maxx

i like the look of the canoe myself
besides how many backup blades do you need?

besides i would think the canoe is lighter and easier to pocket carry (less weight)

just my 2cents

I would take the Humpback Stockman but that's only because I have been carrying mine for about 6 months and I have become rather attached to it.

The blades are a bit stiff on my Humpback if that is a concern for you. The Spear blade is about a 7 on the pull scale and the other two are about 8.

I would think that the Canoe would be slimmer.

Here's a pic that I've posted before with a Black Micarta Calf Roper.

Between those two I'd have to flip a coin I believe. They both fill the bill! I sorta have both except I have the humpback whittler, which some say isn't a whittler at all because of the back spring thing(I think I agree with it)! It's like a whole new pattern, but I sure like the heck out of mine!

I need a larger and a smaller one as a backup ( more a "want" than a "need" :D as a 'holic...)
I worry that 3 blades (2-3 springs?) may become too thick, hence all the questions in my head...

stiffness is not really a concern, case knives are usually easier than gec
thanks for the pic, looks nice! I see it's as big as the 66#, is it thick the same? (+-)

flipping a coin would be an idea :D
I don't like the whittler as the secondary blades are IMO too thin, for my likings and I love stockmen now...

I will have to get back to you on that, Max. Supper is on the table.:)

I will have an answer for you soon if someone else doesn't beat me to it.

no hassle Rick, going to bed here :D so you have time
thanks in advance!

Sorry for the lousy pic but here they are side by side. The Humpback Stockman on the left is slightly thicker than the Calf Roper.

thanks a LOT rick! this helps me deciding

I've confronted the G-10 canoe I have with the #66 and the #66 is a bit thicker, the humpback is even thicker then

may have to go with the canoe then!, going to take a couple more measures and then decide, I'll let ya know

thanks Rick thanks guys

There may be some variation with different handle materials since my harvest orange humpback stockman is actually slightly thinner than my black micarta and cocobolo Calf Ropers. The harvest orange may be thinner due to the extra polishing on the "pocket worn" knives.

My micarta Calf Roper is 0.540 inches thick, my cocobolo Calf Roper is 0.550 inches thick and my orange humpback stockman is 0.508 inches thick.

hey Jake!
many many thanks for the pic!, I see the blades are approx the same thickness too
I actually like the harvest orange, have a muskrat with those handles

I'm trying to get rid of something, may be able to get both the canoe and the humpack but right now I still have to decide...

thanks for the help

I ended up ordering the smooth chestnut bone humpback stockman as the orange was not available from my usual dealer
also bought the rough black canoe

anyone got the new smooth chesnut? not many pics around, wonder if it's reddish or brownish

will post some feedback when they arrive
cheers

I love my Case Canoe, it's more contoured when closed, no pointy edges. My Canoe is thinner than the same length Stockman from Case. I gave the Stockman to my Mother. I don't know if she's ever had anything that sharp.

Little late to the dance but I'd go with the canoe. No particular reason other than I like the pattern. Now if the stockman had a pen blade in it that would be more of a dilemma!

Thats what I was going to say. The Canoe does seem to hide in one's pocket just a little easier than its blocky brethren.
