I put out 6-7 plain wire snares yesterday and today I found a fuzzy wuzzy in one of them.

I used my Condor Hudson Bay to mark my snare sets, it felt wonderfuly traditional.

I also keep an eye out for old cork top bottles. This is a ''Davis Vegetable Painkiller'' bottle that actually contained Opium when sold. Closest date I can attribute to it is 1890-1910.

Someone made a tiny hobo stove out there.

great thread man. You just inspired me to set some more snares at the swamp this week, what are you using for wire?

Just plain Jane golden brass snare wire found in any local hardware store. It has been years since I've done this, but it's pretty simple stuff really.

I know I used to set snares all the time at the swamp by the house. Still have a few out there I move and check regularly but like I said you inspired me to set some more.

I practice making snares all the time, but I never leave them set. Now.. seeing that makes me hungry..

Cool... I was just winging it yesterday after a long time. I bet that 99% of the folks here can set these up. Very simple and just use common sense were you put them. Quick, easy, simple. Gets my lard butt out for a walk to check them also.

Been a long time since I've had rabbit. Used to taste like funky old boot years back. Maybe spicing it up will get me past that. :o Will check every morning. I'm just going to grab a few then remove the wire. It's all vertical so no yodel dogs or whatever can step into them and get a leg caught.

nice stuff. I have always wanted to really learn this skill. never done it before. and I always make stew out of my bunnies lol

You should have stuck mr. Fuzzy Wuzzy on a stick, and roasted him on an open fire to complete the experience. Nice catch!

Sweet post, I have always wanted to learn how to make snares. You have inspired me to finally learn, thank you!

If I may ask, how did you set up the snare? Just some wire and a noose?

Just, very basic and simple. That gold colored thin brass wire that comes in a small role. Snip a length off, make a tiny loop on one end for the rest of the wire to go back through giving you a bigger loop, now tie off end to something so the fuzzy can't run away. I'm an amateur and there are professionals on this forum that have forgotten more than I've ever known. But really, it's super easy.

This turned out to be a dud spot, too many Coyote?, fox? dens around. I also learned quickly (again) that my snare loops were sometimes a bit too large.

That's quite a bit different than what I am used to. The last rabbit I had, a couple weeks ago, tasted almost exactly like chicken. Almost indistinguishable from each other. Hopefully it tastes better this time around for you. :)

Last time for me was years ago. In the spring I believe, rabbits everywhere and I was popping them with a .22 They were bad for ticks that year, loads of them in their ears. Maybe the fresh growth wasn't up yet and they were still on bark. Froze this one up for later.
