hi A friend is going to Hurgay. Does anybody know about the knives being made there and have info /websites about the companys

Interesting topic!

Brought back this Szankovits in 2003... Fit & Finish is OK; the wood moved a little bit. The spring is on the hard side. Filework on the spring. Bought it in Budapest, on Vaci Utca. Still very happy with this purchase!

That is a great looking knife ,maybe with some French influence. I would like to see more work from eastern europe especially Czeck's because they have a tradition of weapon making and metal work.

this is a traditional hungarian slipjont called 'fejes görbe' (hard to translate, something like ~ 'curved headed').

you can find traditional custom knifemakers in here (choose from list: 'Magyar gyártók, forgalmazók, boltok' > Hungarian makers, dealers, shops):
