It started with my own 12 year old daughter..Last month she read the Hunger Games book for school credit,,then went to the premier with her older sister and told me how the book was better than the movie and the movie left out a bunch of important scenes.. She still liked the movie but I was surprised at how she compared the two..We had some deep discussions about wilderness survivial and thanks to the book and movie,, camping this summer will be awesome..She wants to practice shelter making , cooking by the fire, aquiring drinkable water and just basic woods crafting skills..I'm so stoked about all this just wanted to share with you guys..

Two co-workers daughters ages 10 and 13 are watching the movie this weekend and also reading the book...One guy has NEVER camped or hiked in his life and all week I've been telling him about how much my family loves it..His wife is not the outdoors type AT ALL..But.. Because their 10 year old has shown so much interest with the movie and book they'll be checking out some local campgrounds this summer....

I can't ever remember a book/movie causing such a buzz with the younger kids..Especially girls and outdoor survivial...I think this is a good thing.

I read it, doesn't go in to fire starting or water safety. There again with 23 other people trying to kill you now and water borne creepy's taking a few days you take chances

Mmmhmm... the movie (and book) has stirred up quite an interest around here (OC). I've seen a lot of new faces at my local archery range. Plenty of new young faces.

I totally forgot , she did say something about learning how to shoot a bow this summer...When I was a kid my father belonged to a local archery club..It had 50 to 60 outdoor targets...The club used the terrain for some challanging stages,,some were up hill , some down hill , along hillsides with differant yardages out to about 40-45 yards...If she takes to archery like I did I'll probably be joining...I have some good memories with my dad shooting so I'm hoping for that as well...

I haven't seen the movie or read the book,, YET..

i would have to agree.. this is definitely a good thing.. my familyand I have been shooting traditional archery for many years, and since these books have come out, we have been asked countless times already, if we teach other kids how to shoot a bow, as well as wilderness skills.. ts really cool.. the books weren't bad either.. i enjoyed them..
