Moderators, I know this is off topic but since most of the action is in this forum please consider leaving it here.

Hi! This seems like a good thing:

The Hunger Site at the U.N. is a really neat website.
All you do is click a button and somewhere in the world
some hungry person gets a meal to eat at no cost to
you. The food is paid for by corporate sponsors who's
logos you get to look at afterwards.

You're only allowed one click per day so spread the
word to others. Visit the site and pass the word.

Give a man a $20 bill; he'll be fed for a day. Teach a man to make $20 bills; he'll be fed for 3 to 5 years, with time off for good behavior.

Thanks Tom,
It is a good thing. I've added it to my Favorites, and will E-mail my friends so they can do the same.

I came, I saw, I clicked the button.
I really hope this is for real, I am so sick of those bogus sites.

I have clicked.

Note . . . Not everybody who participates needs to post here, since that would just use up a bunch of bandwidth here. Occasional short replies to bring it up toward the top are OK every day or two.

Thought I'd give this one more run.
I guess with Thanksgiving aproaching the idea that there are still so many people in the world that are starving makes me more aware of what I have to be thankful for.

incidentally....i noticed that the amount of food-per-click has risen since this topic was first posted: from 1.5 cups to 2.25 cups. small print at the bottom says this is due to an increase in the number of corporate sponsors for the site--one-quarter cup per new sponsor. so the site is doing well

back when i worked in the for-profit sector, a bunch of employees signed a letter asking the corporate Big Cheeses to donate some money to a particular cause...and they did it, to our surprise...

so if you work for a company that's doing well, consider asking the powers that be to share their wealth as a hungersite sponsor for the holidays (and beyond). worst that can happen is they say no. best that can happen is a starving child gets more food to grow on

just a thought (not to mention a way to help keep the topic at the top during this holiday week!).

Thanks Tom.
Seems like a great way to start every day.

Blessed are the weak, hungry and oppressed. Jesus and all the prophets were all about caring for the poor. It's easy to forget about them in our comfortable existence here in America. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

This site is not run by the UN. (Yay!) A private individual started it. The UN just praises their work. (Is a UN endorsement a GOOD thing?)

If there is free food to pass out to other countries, why does one have to click a button to get it done? Why isn't it just being passed out? All these companies have too much of a "What's in it for me?" attitude when it comes to doing good. Don't cash in on the starving people.

All that being said, I clicked.

As we give our thanks this holiday for the overabundance that we have here in the United States, I challenge everyone who reads this to at least do it once. While the hungry parts of the World have no recognition of our Thanksgiving, they do share the need for sustinence. What they receive is probably minimal, but when the other option is starving, minimal looks like a feast. May you and yours have a good Thanksgiving.

Take care,
John Johnson

actually, some of the starving is happening closer to home than many of us care to think about. urban ghettos, rural areas, indian reservations, small towns in the deep south--many of the decendants of that first Thanksgiving (all sides of the table: black, indian, and white) are suffering through this one with an empty belly. the shame is on us that in this wealthiest of all countries, children are born malnourished and fail in school because they are too hungry to think clearly.

so click tonight so that some may sleep with a good meal in their stomachs, and don't forget to click again tomorrow to ensure that other Americans can give Thanks, too...

holiday blessings to all,
silverwing

I wont participate in ANYTHING the UN even endorses. There methods are misleading and there motives are never good.

I will continue to donate to my local church, my local soup kitchen, my local homeless shelter, continue to give warm clothing to the homeless. I would suggest doing any of these things to make a real difference in some ones life... and its much more personal than clicking your mouse (even if that actually does anything).

The UN is politically motivated in all actions and intent, they are pro abortion, pro extreme gun control, and present a valid threat to the United States through incremental authority.

Im not looking for a flame war, just asking that my fellow forum members be vigilant in there thoughts and actions.

This is my only post, if you have comments or wish to exchange then email me privately.
