Was not Rusty part Hungarian?
In any event, I need a translation.
It is a Police patch.
POLICE
RENDORSEG
KULONLEGES
SZOLGALATA

Thanks boys,

Daniel

With all of the diverse resources on this forun nobody can translate Hungarian?

Ghost/Warlock 6-

Don't know Hungarian, but I found an online Hungarian-English-Hungarian dictionary: http://dict.sztaki.hu/english-hungarian (try it with all check-boxes check and 'partial matches' for most results)

Fed your words into it - my best guess is:

POLICE = Police
RENDORSEG = constabulary/police
KULONLEGES = special
SZOLGALATA = service/in the service of

so something like 'in the service of the special police force' perhaps?

cheers,

...but I found a helluva dictiionary list :D

POLICE - Police, for tourists who don't read Hungarian.

RENDORSEG - Police, or Constabulary, for those who do read Hungarian.

KULONLEGES - Special

SZOLGALATA - One-word translation, as it was given, was "beaconage". A phrase included, in Hungarian (fed back into the translator one word at a time), kept coming up "nautical", or "naval" with cross references to words meaning "intelligence", "knowledge", and "news".
This patch is either for the naval intel bunch, the lighthouse patrol, or the harbourmaster police, as near as I can figure. Even the Hungarian on-line dictionaries don't speak enough English to translate well, and this was the best of about eight.

Found a real nice set of dictionaries for Xhosha, though....I don't think their cops wear patches, though.....more like tattoos and scars.

Haven't had that much fun since the IRS audit :rolleyes:

EDIT - Beo and I were posting at the same time :) Beo, you rascule, why would another dictionary come up with "beaconage" for "szolgalata"? Or is that just "Hungary ho" :D

If you took me back to age 5 or 6 by hypnosis, I might be able to translate some, but not a lot. It came from my mom and her sister constantly looking at us kids, looking at each other and saying something in Hungarian - then laughing so hard they sometimes wet their pants.

Excellent incentive to learn the language.

Walosi - the online dict. gave these 'phrases':

katonai szolgálatát teljesíti = to do one's time
szolgálataiért megjutalmaz vkit = to recompense a person for his services
szolgálatait felajánlja = to volunteer
szolgálatára van vkinek = to be of service to sy
vkinek a szolgálatában = in the pay of sy
vkinek szolgálatában álló = attached
vminek szolgálatában álló = attached

felvált/átveszi a szolgálatát = take over from
miben állhatok szolgálatára = can i do anything for you
miben lehetek szolgálatára? = how can i serve you?/what can i do for you?

that's why I thought 'service' (like the motto 'serve and protect'(?)) - but it could mean 'naval' something for as much as I know...it could be 'potato' so far as I know if it comes to that - no obvious cognates...

we got the same result on the otehrs though, which is good :)

Thanks for the data. I an not in a position to ask too many questions about it.
It is a very cool patch with a CZ75 and a dagger. There is no doubt as to intent. There is gold bullion trim.
I am suprised that they would spend the money. In US it would cost at least $10.00. that is at least twice usual here.
Laber would be cheap, none the less, It has black,grey,gold,red,white,gunblue,light blue,silver and green.
I could make a call and find out what this would cost in the US.
I bet it would scare me.

Try a Finnish dictionary, both languages come from a Finno-Ugric base. Also try the Jewish dictionaries as the Hungarians practiced Judaism for four to six hundred years til King Stephen converted to christianity about 1,000 C. E. and was presented the crown jewels by the pope for it. Might also check out turkic references, as there was a strong influence among the Magyar, Khabar, Kazakh, and Khazar tribes that lived above the Bosphorus area before the Magyar and Khazar tribes struck out for what is now Hungary. One reason why Wallachia, Transylvania, and Hungary hate the Turks with a passion for letting their blood that makes that the serbs/kosovite dislike for each other look like a kindergarten playground feud.

Beoram will be along to correct any misinformation I may have inadvertantly given, I'm sure.

I`ll ask Bill to do it. He figuered it out some time ago.

I tried the buttons.

The Marshal patch is mine.
GSG9 is Federal Border Police. They do the assault stuff.

The Hungarian patch is from a special SWAT type unit.
The logic would lead to some of the translations.

The patches do have one thing in common; we are not PC, and you can expect death, wounds and destruction, if you attract our interest.

Thanks Uncle, the accent marks make a difference. I do not know what they are, none the less,this requires a pic, as my keyboard may not do that. I do not know, it may.
