In a thread started recently we discussed an old '69-'72 Buck 119. The thread led to date stamping and the different changes the 100 series went through over the years. The quest to find a three line blade stamp, read with the tip of the blade pointed up and 4 micarta spacers had begun. We have found examples of every one of the 100 series, with the exception of the 106( which in my opinion doesn't belong to the traditional 100 series fixed blade knives). We have yet to find an example of the 119 that fit in this catagory,( tip up, three line stamp, with 4 micarta spacers, 2 on the finger guard and 2 on the pommel)

IF ANY BODY HAS A 119 THAT FITS IN THIS CATAGORY< SEVERAL PEOPLE HERE WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT...

Here is the 1973, three line stamp read with point of the blade up, that has 4 spacers. Two spacers under the finger guard and two in the pommel. the second picture is the 120, the same way. Now we have found all of the 100 series that fit into the 2x2 spacer configuration...

I have an inverted three liner with four spacers but no camera. Just thought you might want to know they really exist.

Thanks Richard, the knife we were looking for was a three liner with the tip of the blade pointed up, that has four spacers.

They exist and a forum member here recently sold 1 on ebay, and a 120 same version....I got outbid, otherwise I would post a pic

Here is the 119 I believe you are looking for would have posted earlier but I am just getting to the buck knives and found this post as I was doing some research if it is not correct sorry but this has 2x2 spacers 3 line read tip up

I now have the 102,103,105,116 and 121 in this series. There is quite a bit of variation in the color of the spacers from a nice distinct burgundy to almost black. Is there any significance to this color variation or just luck of the draw? Tried a picture but couldn't get the difference to show.

There was a color range in the micarta we got and I would not be surprised if diferent types of micarta were even tried. I have no documentation to support that, but it seems possible.
I remember when I set out to document the 100 series and assumed that they all followed the same path. My first clue that they didnt was when I was not able to find certain variations in all models. Unfortunately, my notes are horrible and I cant recall which variations were missing from which models. If I remember right, from my sample pile of several hundred old knives, I saw piles of every variation but when it came to the 119/120 (?) I had only one sample of a certain variation. Should have been basically the same sized pile and it was then that I knew each 100 series was diferent.
I will start compiling a new sample "pile" of 100 series so as to take another look. Unfortunately, this will take a good year or two.

Joe, thanks for responding and I'm sure there are some of us that will be waiting for that information with baited breath. Any abnormality is always a collectors fantasy.

No i'm not looking for one, this thread is from 2011. I have had one and every other factory produced 119.

Nah just throwing this 1 out as the other thread seems to need some direction,
you asked for an example

when read this 1 the Elusive Correct

Black or dark burgundy?

Well, I assumed this one was black, but let me get my glasses and a flashlight...

I checked and they are actually dark burgundy...so dark they look black unless a strong flashlight is shown on them. So, I stand corrected. :)

Thanks. The color of those spacers can be a little deceiving. :)

I just picked up all these at a recent Gun & Knife show. I don't know why they would be considered elusive as I could have purchased a double set of these with the 102. In my area I can find them, used with the sheath & no box. Still, is good shape. DM
