An example of Larry's simpler work. The balance is superb.

A satin finished 4.5" blade of 5160, 8.9" overall, polished brass fittings with an African Blackwood spacer and an Ironwood handle.

brass never looked so good!

Brass looks great when it's all nice and shiny. It doesn't look so go when it turns green. I love the overall look of the knife though, and the sheath is equally nice.

Brass?!?!?! WTF?!?! ;) :p

Just kidding. I actually like brass.... I just don't like that it doesn't stay so beautiful for very long.

This is the simplest Fuegen I've ever seen, and as usual, it's superb.

Larry, Tim Hancock, and I had breakfast in Reno during the ABS Expo a few years back and were talking about embelishment. They both voiced their feelings that a knife has to be like a beautiful woman in a simple, black dress.

A beautiful woman in a black dress needs NO adornment. You are simply drawn to her natural beauty that is the flowing lines of her silhouette, the fine curves, the fresh look of her soft/smooth skin, etc. IF she chooses... THEN she can add a necklace, or a bracelet, or some lip-stick... etc. But she DOES NOT NEED to.

They explained how a knife is the same way. If you make a good, solid, clean knife with smooth, flowing lines, you will be drawn to it in the same way. It CAN be embellished, but doesn't need to be in order for you to like it.

This is a fine example of Larry's beautiful woman in a black dress without the jewelry and make-up.

NICE!!! :D

For the third time.Beautiful.
And Clean. :)
Congrats Peter.

Yeah, that looks great. Hopefully you will have good luck with the brass. That brass looks GREAT in contrast the dark handle. From the few I have handled, his knives do indeed have great balance in the hand. Nice one Peter.

Nice. Larry's going old skool on us to keep us off-balance. I just shot a similar sized carved hunter with copper bolsters....

Congrats Peter!

Simple and clean
Like it very much :D

I have few knives with brass bolsters  Anybody has any advices on how to keep it looks clean?

Nick, you gotta write a book man:thumbup:
Love that analogy. Oh so true.
Sex sells!:D

Very nice knife/sheath package. Is it a newer piece?
He is an outstanding sheathmaker too.
Incredible amount of talent.
I have an order in with him. Can't wait.

Let's be clear - freshly polished brass has a lustre, color, fire that is in my opinion matched only by gold. The problem is that it tarnishes faster than ... huh ... well, very fast.

I agree Joss.
And it polishes/cleans so easy.
I don't see it being such a problem.

But then I don't see the problem with giraffe bone either. ;)

The knife looks great to me. The simple and useful design works very well, but brass is, imho, not acceptable as material but for beginners. As stated above, looks great for a short period of time, but too short and what it becomes is too ugly. But that´s just me, I wouldn´t buy it.

I use Mother's Billet metal polish. Works like magic!

You can find it at auto supply/detailing shops.

P

Go over to Malaysia and demonstrate, Peter...everyone knows how much you love to polish the brass!!!:D;):D

Best Regards,

super clean and a lovely sheath. I do not mind brass and i do not find it hard to clean up. When I got my old bagwell bowie that i like so much the guard was horrible. A little bit of rubbing and goodn as new. Brass is far from my favorite and I would not order a new knife with it but on some piece's i find it fine.

Ahhhhhh Brass, reminds me of that great old tune..........................

"In the Navy"

Good snag Peter. My guess is that you were in front of the screen when the Solvang sirens went off.
